James R. Spencer:
James Riley Spencer was my great-great grandfather. He was born in Kentucky but his folks eventually made their home in Iron County, Missouri where he met and married Mary Ellen Tindell in 1875. When his brother, John Samuel Spencer, moved to Mt. Sherman James Riley decided to move his family there too. My grandfather, James Thomas Spencer, would be his parents first child to be born on Mt. Sherman.

Mary E. (Tindell) Spencer:
Mary Ellen (Tindell) Spencer, wife of James Riley Spencer, was my great-great grandmother. She bore 9 children, two who died young and before they moved from Missouri to Mt. Sherman. The rest of her children are buried in Mt. Sherman Cemetery except for John Riley who is buried in Jasper Cemetery.

James T. and Mary A. (Barr) Spencer:
James Thomas Spencer and Mary Arzelia (Barr) Spencer were my grandparents. They were both born on Mt. Sherman. James 'Jeems' as he was known to family and friends was the son of James Riley and Mary Ellen (Tindell) Spencer. Mary Arzelia was the daughter of David and Emma (Bell) Barr. Grandpa and Grandma eventually moved to Jasper where Grandpa had a barber shop. My Aunt Edith spoke about him bringing the dirty towels home from the shop in the evening and how she would have to wash them on the old scrubbing board and have them ready for him to take back the next morning.

Robert Charles Spencer:
Robert Charles Spencer was my parents first born child. When he was 16 days old my parents woke up to find him unresponsive. My dad ran to a neighbor's house in Jasper to have her come over and sit with Mom and then ran on foot for several blocks to get to a doctor. It was in January and Mom told me the day they buried Robert Charles there had been a bad ice storm and had a hard time getting up to the cemetery on Mt. Sherman.
