Ann Fields sent me this information on those buried in this cemetery:
J. B. Brown 1785-1852 was County Judge in Johnson County from 1838 to 1852. His full name was John Benton Brown. His wife was Saran Ann 'Sally' Houston 1791-1861. Children: Robert Houston Brown 1812-1866; Margaret Brown 1814-1887 who married Parson Jackson; Newton W Brown who was in the Mexican War and died prior to October 1858. Newton Married Sarah Hogan; Benton J. Brown; John Grenvah Brown 1820-1897 who married Harriet Allen, daughter of Lewis Allen and Lucy Felts.
Anna also said that Anita Schmidt in 2003 sent her information on this family and stated that John Benton Brown was in the Tennessee House.
Benton Jackson Brown went to Cane Hill College for one year and taught mathematics while he was there. He married Katherine Rothrock. He was president of Citizens' Bank of Van Buren, Arkansas. He enlisted in the Civil War and was appointed quartermaster with the rank of Captain by Jefferson Davis. Benton practiced at Federal and State Bars as well as being county and probate judge. He represented Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad as attorney and agent of the land department. In 1873, he was elected as state senator and served until 1884. He was Judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit, and member of the Electoral College in 1876 and voted for Samuel J. Tilden for President of the United States.
