George L. Bowen...born October 6, 1831 in New York, died June 19, 1910 at Murray, Newton County, Arkansas. The following image is from 1900 Newton County Census, Murray twp, recorded by Duster Snow June 21, 1900. George L. Bowen was enumerated as a boarder living in the household of James Monroe McPherson and wife, Lou Ella Snodgrass, along with their daughter Bertha. James McPherson went by 'Roe', short for Monroe...son of William Albert McPherson and Mary Culbertson.

Roe McPherson was a first cousin once removed, to Amanda J. 'Mandy' Carlton. Mandy was daughter of William Curtis Carlton and Eliza Emily Hull and widow of Thaddeus Keller Graham. George L. Bowen married Amanda 'Mandy' Carlton Graham November 19, 1899.

Question: Why was George L. Bowen living in the McPherson household, rather than with his wife that he had married just seven months previous? Does anyone have a divorce record for this couple?

Mandy appears as Amanda Bowen, Head of Household, on the 1900 Newton County Census, also living in Murray twp...the children living in the household were two of the children born to Amanda and Thaddeus Graham.

By the 1910 Newton County Census, Mandy had went back to using the Graham name, and was living in the household of her brother, William Carlton.

George was enumerated as George L. Boen with another wife in the 1910 Newton County Census. She was Mary Emily Murray, daughter of William J. Murray and Serphin 'Sarah Fine' Tilson. She was first married to John Monroe 'Monroe' Willis. George L. Bowen married Mary E. Willis July 4, 1902.
