Elizabeth was the daughter of James Jones and Mary Standridge born about 1823 in Tennessee, probably Marion County. She came to Arkansas with her family in the early 1830s. She married Andrew Hampton, son of Joel Hampton and Elizabeth Page, before 1850. Andrew died during the Civil War. Elizabeth was readmitted to the Cherokee Nation in 1888. She is on the 'Old Settler' Roll.

When Elizabeth sought to be readmitted into the Cherokee Nation, she petitioned for many of her relatives, stating their names in her application. In turn, Elizabeth our Beloved Cherokee, left a record so we now know many who she named. Whereas, if she had selfishly only petitioned for her own readmission, many of these identities would be lost to us. Kathleen Davis thought the inscription on the Bible on her gravestone was fitting to honor a Mother to so many!

Mother thou hast from us gone
To the region far above
We to thee accept this stone
Consecrated by our Love

Elizabeth's grave is in White Oak Cemetery, near Vinita, Oklahoma. She traveled from near Nickajack, Alabama to Arkansas by early 1830. She bore a son whose last name bears the name Jones. His father's indentity lost to us. She left Arkansas for Missouri after the Civil War. Helping her sons with their children. The beautiful stone set by her family attest to their love for their Cherokee Mother. Today we carry her genes in our blood with great pride.
