 Bethel Freewill Baptist Church Records with  Name Index
This church was organized July of 1925 and ceased to exist at that location
circa 1967. The new Bethel Church was organized October 1, 2001 at a different
location and was dedicated to Herman Lewis and my dad, Owen Harvell, both of
whom pastored the old church. There are baptism records, marriages records, 
death records and other items of interest in these records.

 Abraham Garland Byler Descendant Report which also includes notation by Silas
Turnbo as well as newspaper account of Sheriff Abraham Byler being killed in 
the line of duty, 1892.  Abraham Byler was the first sheriff of  Baxter County.

 Family Separated by Civil War 'the family was split right down the middle 
by the conflict. While James Henry and Simeon were fighting for the South and
Daniel and William were fighting for the North, Sarah was living at home, in
the South, with her unionist family. One can imagine the emotional turmoil 
and stress to family and friends, but according to oral history the family
bonds remained. From a 1978 article by Owen Harvell, in the Izard County 
Historian, '...Because of this division in the family, the mother was worried
when the boys were all at home on furlough. Her fears were needless,for the
boys often slept in the same bed and never quarreled with each other...'
