In 1969, I decided to gather our family info and write our family history...
32 yrs later I am still gathering information and have decided there is no stopping place, so will compile what I have. My Raines info was gathered from South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma...from census records, court records, cemeteries, Civil War records, Bible records and older descendants.
Our first proven ancestor was James RAINES born 1793 in South Carolina. He had at least one brother, Robert, born 1786 in South Carolina. Proof of their parents names are unproved at this writing, but am still looking for documents for proof. They are on the 1840 census of Walker Co, Ala. living with their son, Robert, who never married.
Every census up until 1850 just list name of Head of Household then ages of males and females living in the household.
It lists:
1 male between age of 70-80
1 female between age of 70-80
Robert was listed as between 40-50
They died before 1850 in Walker Co Ala. On the 1850 census Robert was living with James and his children. He died between 1850-1860 in Walker Co. Robert filed for government land in 1833 and James filed in 1834 at Sipsey, Ala., Walker Co. James remained on his land the remainder of his life.
I haven't proven when they left South Carolina but were in Ala. in 1818. James married Milla BARTON in Lawrence Co Ala Oct 6 1818 [have his marriage record]. She was born 1803 in South Carolina to Moses and Fannie BARTON. James and Milla came to Walker Co in 1822 with the Moses BARTON family.
James and Milla had 9 children:

[9] Margaret Ann [Peggy] born 1841 married Wm.Washington ABBOTT
Milla died 1843 and is buried in the Sardis Cem. near Rispey, Ala. Her homemade stone is still readable after all these years.
James remarried in 1850 to a Widow named Susan [Surname unknown] she had 1 son, John, born 1845 [he is listed as RAINES on the 1860 census [which was a common mistake made by census takers]
James and Susan had 3 Daughters:

[2] Sylvania born 1853 married John Newton PATE
[3] Lucinda born 1857. married William BEST
James died 1871 in Walker Co, Ala. Have not found Susan after his death and as she was several yrs. younger than James, she probably remarried.

James William [Bud] Raines
Bud was born July 1, 1851 in Walker County, Alabama, he was the son of William Bailey and Elizabeth Kennymore Raines. He married Hannah Loggains in 1876 in Marion County, Arkansas. Hannah was born October 1, 1848 in Alabama, she was the daughter of Major and Sarah Mullins Loggains.
Her Father was a Civil War casuality and her mother Hannah came with the Raines Family to Boone County, Arkansas in 1870.
Hannah and Bud's children were:
{1] Robert Carroll born July 4, 1877, never married; died May 2, 1969, buried at Harrison, Arkansas.
[2] Jane born August 31, 1880 married Sam Davis
[3] Nancy Sarah born February 27, 1879, married Thompsy Harris
[4] Dicie born Mar 30, 1883, married Lee Bearden, died October 11, 1964 at Harrison, Arkansas.
[5] James Oliver born October 15, 1885, married Dora Lay, died May 12, 1942 in Boone County, Arkansas.
[6] John Newton born June 25, 1887, married Anna Baker, died November 6, 1964 in Boone County, Arkansas.
Bud died of heat stroke in the hayfield in 1899 at Freck, Arkansas. Hannah died 1932 and is buried beside Bud in the Water Creek Cemetery.
George William Bly
George was born May 6, 1854 in Mercer County, Missouri to James Henry and Jane Brittain Bly. He married Sinthia Laws in 1873 in Taney County, Missouri. She was born 1853 in Ky and died 1873 in Mincy, Taney County, Missouri.

Sinthia died 1893 and is buried in the Mincy Cemetery Taney County, Missouri. George never remarried and he died April 22, 1929 and is buried in the Omahe Cemetery. [I have his death certificate].
Priscilla Pamela Raines Haskins
Priscilla Raines was born 1844 in Walker County, Alabama,
she was the daughter of William Bailey and Elizabeth Kennymore Raines.
She married John W. Haskins May 8, 1869 in Wayne County, Tennessee on their way to Boone County, Arkansas. He was the orphaned son of Hamilton and Charity Gibson Haskins.
Their Children were:
[1]Francis Elizabeth Ann born February 1870 in Boone County, Arkansas; married Wm Wyrick August 5, 1888 in Taney County, Missouri, died in Okla circa 1906-1910.

[3]Lucy J. T. M. born October 1874 in Boone County; married John Rowan, died at Ft Gibson, Oklahoma
[4]Mary L. A. born November 1878 in Boone County; married Will Van Meter, November 7, 1907 at Meeker, Oklahoma
[5]Hamilton born July 1880 in Taney County, Missouri; married Phena Hurd Haskins [his Bro John's widow]
[6]George Lawson born August 1881 in Taney County, Missouri; married Mary Hampton, buried in Boone County, Arkansas
[7] Bell born January 1886 in Taney County; married Brad Brasell, January 3, 1907
[8]Martha born March 1888, died 1899 in Ft Gibson during a Typhoid Epidemic
Priscilla and John moved to Okla in 1898 and died in a typhoid epidemic in 1899. They are buried in the Three Rivers Cemetery between Ft. Gibson and Okay, Oklahoma.
