MADISON COUNTY
COUNTY GOVERNMENT

A County Government was organized in Madison County in 1836, in the barn of Evan S. Polk. A short distance northwest of the present town of Huntsville, which was laid out as a town and made the permanent seat of government in 1839. The county is named in honor of President James Madison.

All eligible veterans are entitled to a marked grave. Government headstones or markers are available at no cost, through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
