Harry Allison Sellers Jr., a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born January 20, 1931 in Lodi, Texas. He departed this life Thursday, October 19, 2000 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 69. Mr. Sellers was a veteran having served his country with the U.S. Marines Reserves. He was a member of the Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Berryville. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Richland Hills Lodge #1348 in Fort Worth, TX and the Shriners. He was the owner of Allpine Log Homes. On October 14, 1950, he was united in marriage with Venita Kathleen (Moncrief) Sellers who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David Allison and Diane Sellers of Lead Hill, AR; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Kathleen and Raymond Crosier of Springdale, AR, Sharon Elizabeth and Bill Tydings of Boise, Idaho and Melinda Marie and Greg Gifford of Berryville, AR; his mother, Gladys Lorene Scoggin and her husbnad Scottie of Hurst, TX; one brother-in-law, John Floyd Moncrief of Fort Worth, TX; five grandsons; six granddaughters; one great grandson; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Marie Floyd Sellers; his father, Harry Allison Sellers, Sr.; and one son, Daniel Floyd Sellers. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 23, 2000 at the Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Berryville with Rev. David Lindsey and Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Roy Gene Powers, 45, of Springdale died May 27, 2001, at his home. He was born March 16, 1956, at Kennett, Mo., to Robert and Madge Stills Powers. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on Old Betsy, a 1926 model fire engine, at the Springdale Fire Department. He was a member of First Christian Church of Springdale and the PTAs of Lee Elementary School, Helen Tyson Middle School and Central Junior High School. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Powers of the home, to whom he was married Aug. 8, 1998; one son, Matthew Neagles Powers of the home; two daughters, Marissa Shea Neagles Powers and Lanie Powers, both of the home; his mother of Marshall; four brothers, Robert Powers of Springdale, Donny Powers of McKinney, Texas, Jamie Powers of Springdale and Billy Powers of Gainesville, Texas; three sisters, Patricia O'Dell of Azle, Texas, Barbara Zohn of Seattle, Wash., and Mary Sue Bean of Springdale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with the Rev. Keith Marinus officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Newton County, he served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during World War II, graduated from Deer High School, received a B.S. degree from Arkansas Tech University at Russellville and a masters degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He taught American history and American government for 32 years, served as Deer's superintendent for 30 years and served the youth of the Deer community for 34 years. He lived on the farm homesteaded by his ancestors. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jewell Hopport, and two sons, Donnie Cowell and an infant son. Survivors include his wife, Betty Shaddox Cowell of Deer; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kim Cowell of Deer; grandchildren Dustin and Emily Cowell of Deer; a sister, Eileen Bohannon of Deer, and a special friend, Sadie Adams. Mildred G. Middlemas, 87, Kansas City North, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Woodbine Healthcare Center. Mrs. Middlemas was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Wesley Ark., to the late Charlie A. Bennett and Margie Duncan Bennett. She was the eldest of eight brothers and sisters. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and was a longtime resident of the Northeast Kansas City community. She retired in 1977 from Montgomery Wards. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Middlemas Sr., her youngest son, Philip D. Middlemas, a brother and two sisters. Her survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Deborah Middlemas, Kansas City, and William O. Middlemas Jr., Raytown; two brothers and a sister-in-laws Gerald and Charlene Bennett Hindsville, Arks. and Luther Bennett Wesley, Ark; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Talau McCollough and Alice Fern and Leroy Phillips, all of Tulsa, Okla; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Burton Harp, 67, of Salem died Sunday. Born in Lamar, Colo., he moved to Salem in 1939 and served in the Army during the Korean War. He sold real estate, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed the outdoors, watching sports and was a member of the Real Estate Exchange Club. Survivors include his wife, Clarine, whom he married in 1956; sons, Doug and Don, both of Salem and Dale of Stayton; daughter, Deedra Harp of Salem; brothers, Gene of Eugene and Richard and Ron, both of Salem; sisters, Norma Jacobs of Keizer, Rena Dale of Salem and Patricia Reppeto and Shirley Montes, both of Dallas; and six grandchildren. James Benjamin Fleming, 90, of Huntsville, died October 3, 1999 at the Eureka Springs convalescent Center at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He was born August 5, 1909 at Cumberland, Maryland, the son of Francis Seigel and Lula Lake Fleming. He was comptroller and part owner of Charlotte Photo Engraving in Charlotte, North Carolina prior to his retirement. After retirement, he and his wife lived in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina and Hickory, North Carolina for several years. He was ordained an elder in the Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church at Charlotte, North Carolina by his son, Dr. James P. Fleming. His church membership rests in the First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, North Carolina. He and his family were lifelong Presbyterians. He was an active Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a sixth great-grandson of Josiah Bartlett, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and delegate from New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Ruth Patterson Fleming on October 14, 1985 Survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-laws, Jay Milton and Peggy Fleming of Tamarac, Florida, John William and Delores Fleming of Newport News, Virginia and James Patterson and Jeanne Fleming of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and thirteen stepgreat-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Ed Kimbrel; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Eddie and Dianne Kimbrel of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kenny Kimbrel of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Emma Freeman and Betty Park, both of Clarksville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Oakland Street Church with Rev. Carl Sory officiating. Burial was in Mossville Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home. John Lester Cooper, 80, of Saint Paul, Arkansas, died April 21, 1999 at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born March 11, 1919 at Saint Paul, the son of Francis M. and Nancy Jane McCarty Cooper. he was a farmer and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Alice Lackey Cooper on April 23, 1989. Survivors include; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Dean Jones of Saint Paul and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at 4:00p.m., Saturday, April 24, 1999 at the Riverside Cemetery at Saint Paul with Rev. Sam Judd officiating. 22 Jun 1911 Mary Fredora Rushing Hodkinson Mary Fredora, daughter of Geo. W. and Phoebia Rushing, was born at Piney February 26, 1868, and died at her home at Piney April 22, 1911. She was married to Will Hodkinson May 9, 1893, to which union was born eight children, seven of whom are living. The remains of the mother, robed in white and holding on her left arm the lifeless body of her newborn babe were laid to rest in the Piney cemetery. Dania Rushing, as her friends knew her, was raised in the Bakers Creek community, where she was loved by all who knew her. She professed religion in early life and united with the C. P. Church at Bakers Creek and lived a consecrated christian life until God saw fit to call her home to be with her dear mother, who had gone on before many years ago. On Saturday, April 22, having been in perfect health until three days previous, her death came, a great shock to her family and her friends. She leaves a husband, seven children, an aged father, G. W. Rushing of Hector, five brothers, J. H. of Hubbard City, Texas; R. I. of Clarksville, G. N. of Quinton, Oklahoma; H. A. of Atkins; and T. L. of Dyre, and two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Bryan of Bakers Creek and Mrs. Maxie Bailey of Hector. Joyce Elaine Johnson, 74, of Dardanelle died Friday, June 24, 2005 at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1930 in Dover to the late Elmer and Homer Henderson. She was a retired food service supervisor and a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Johnson; son, Randy Johnson; brother, Nyle Henderson; and sister, Aileene McAlister.
Survivors include her family, Brenda and Tommy Fowler and Ernest Wickersham of Dardanelle; brothers-in-law, Elmo McAlister of Dover, Monroe Johnson of California; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Henderson of Michigan and Ila Jean Andrews of Russellville; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Funeral will be 2 PM Tuesday at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with Redmond Eubanks officiating. Internment will be at Rushing Cemetery in Dover by Cornwell Funeral Home.
