J. B. Parker, 47, of Rt. 2, Box 435, Huntsville, Ark., died May 9, 1990, at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1942, at Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Albert Dalton and Lizzie Kay Stamps Parker. He was Madison County foreman for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Post #10021, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Huntsville. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joyce Whorton Parker of the home; one son, Marty Joe Parker of the home; one daughter, Miss Anita Kay Parker of the home; two brothers, Rex. B. Parker of Williamstown, N.J., and James D. Parker of Huntsville. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Shackelford officiating. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ralph Cline, Gary Fancher, Fred Ficht, Sam Howell, Bill Harbison and William Styles. Wade Bryant McReynolds, 3, died May 19, 2001. He was born March 27, 1998, in Rogers to Derk and Kim Myers McReynolds. He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time on the ranch, and he liked to fish. Survivors include his parents of Siloam Springs; maternal grandparents, Roland and Judy Myers of Gentry; paternal grandparents, David and Debbie McReynolds of Siloam Springs and Stan and Tammy Shelley of Kansas, Okla.; great-grandparents, Robert and Geraldine McReynolds, Kathy Birkes, Jesse Birkes and Charles and Joan Misener, all of Siloam Springs, Junior Glovy of Wagoner, Okla., Millie Shelley of Colcord, Okla., and Effie Davis of Muskogee, Okla. Born July 5, 1925, at Walnut, he was the son of the late T. L. and Ora Snow Bennie, a graduate of Deer High School, attended College of the Ozarks, was a verteran of World War II and a retired assistant manager of Dover Supermarket. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Bennie. Survivors include his wife, Opal Taylor Bennie; a daughter, Ora Jane Harrell of Dover; and a grandchild, Gretchen Brannon of Russellville. Velmer A. Herriman, 87, of Omak, Washington, died May 7, 2001 at Harmony House, Brewster, Washington, She was born February 27, 1914 at Witter, Arkansas to David Delbert and Sarah Ellar Edens Odgen. She was raised at Witter. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George, one child, Jerry, two grandchildren, Michael Davis and Cheryl Herriman, and three great-grandchildren. She was married Millard D. Herriman on August 2, 1929 in Huntsville, Arkansas. They were married for 57 years when he died March 28, 1987. They lived in Madison County, Arkansas until 1943 when they moved to Pike County, Missouri. Then in 1948, she moved to Omak. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Okanogan. She is survived by children Freda and Norman Fallesen of Bolivar, Missouri. Coy 'Zeb' and Nadie, Dewey and Donna Herriman of Omak, Troy and Carole, Frank and Trinia Herriman of Okanogan, Mary and Stanley Davis and Ellen and Art Anderson of Omak, Joanne Herriman, daughter-in-law, of Omak. Russell Marvin Laird, 53, of 12680 Ervin McGarrah Road, Lowell, Arkansas, died June 16, 2000 at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born August 9, 1946 at Brush, Colorado, the son of Marvin Jasper and Mary Ellen Stienbarger Laird. He was a retired toolmaker and attended the Elkins Full Gospel Church. Mrs. Olena J. Scroggins, 87 of Rogers died Saturday at a local hospital. Born Sept. 4, 1885 in Tupelo, Miss., she was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Rogers. Cora Mabel Smith, 78, in loving memory of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whom has sacrificed all for her family. A resident of Albuquerque and formally of Madison, AR, passed away on January 20, 2000. Cora retired from the Civil Service after 13 years of outstanding service. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Virgil Collins Smith in 1969; one son, Charles Franklin Smith; her parents, Lucy Vilena Clark (McGhee) and Rufus Walker Clark; two sisters, Flora May (Clark) Gage and Dora Clark; three brothers, Joseph Samual Clark, Lee Roy and Doy LaFayette Clark; one great-grandson, Michael Ray Olivas. Cora is survived by two children, James Clark Smith of Albuquerque, and Virginia Arlene Heard and her husband, Daniel of Los Lunas; four grandchildren, Rhonda Rene Olivas and her husband, Ramon Jr. and Kimberly Ann Simmons, Keith Charles Smith and Tamara Kimberly Smith; six great-grandchildren, Amanda Michelle Olivas, Andrew Ray Olivas, Aron Michael Olivas, Samantha Marie Boesiger, Deanna Leeann Boesiger, Ryan Alexander Simmons. Ollie Holland, 95, of Huntsville, Arkansas, died February 24, 2001 at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville. She was born February 16, 1906 at Red Star, Arkansas, the daughter of William F. and Corda Reed Killion. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Huntsville for more than sixty-five years. She was the widow of Felix Holland, whom she married on March 24, 1921 and who preceded her in death on November 10, 1979. She was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth L. Holland in 1987 and by one daughter, Ardath Yates In 2000. Survivors include: one grandson and granddaughter-in-Iaw, Thomas and Leah Hunter of Elkins, Arkansas; one nephew, Obie Alexander of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one niece, Margaret Kelley of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two great-grandsons, Marshall Holland of Tennessee and Mason Hunter of Elkins; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Hunter of Elkins. Dan Allen Sams, 48, of Springdale died March 12, 2000, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born June 2, 1951, in Fayetteville to Howard and Bertha Young Sams. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of the House of Prayer in Rogers where he was a trustee. He enjoyed assisting elderly and handicapped people. January 28, 1942; Our city was made sad Wednesday in the death of T.F. Freeman, pioneer Westville merchant. Mr. Freeman had been poorly for some months, having recently sold his farm southwest of town and moved into our city on account of ill health. Born September 15, 1869 in Georgia, he moved with his parents in childhood to Arkansas, moving to Westville 21 years ago, most of this time being spent in the mercantile business. Mr. married Lizzie Dee McCarthy, January 1, 1892. To this union seven children were born. Surviving are his widow and six children. Funeral services will be held at Roberts Funeral Chapel Friday at 1:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Robert Burns, with burial at Dutch Mills under the direction of the Masonic Lodge. {wr} |

Helen Shacoski Hodet, 83, of Bella Vista died May 20, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Coraopolis, Penn. She moved to Bella Vista in 1968 from Brazil. She was active in a settlement house in Manila, Philippines, and was cited by Magsay Say, wife of the president, for her effort there. She was active in charities in Singapore, Malaysia and Brazil. She served as treasurer of the local chapter of United Ostomy for more than two years. She was an avid bridge player. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Richard Hodet Sr., to whom she was married 57 years; two sons, Robert P. Hodet of Rapid City, S.D., and Thomas R. Hodet Jr. of Navarre, Fla.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. No services are planned. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. John R. Watts, 87, of Springdale passed away July 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Wanda Alice Watts of Springdale; one sister, Hortense Snodgrass of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Vicky Robertson of North Little Rock and husband, Jim; three sons, John Watts of Dallas, Texas, and wife, Elaine, Lt. Col. Jim Watts of Warner Robins, Ga., and wife, Patt, and Richard Watts of Little Rock and wife, Alice; two grandsons, John Peter Watts and James Watts; six granddaughters, Jill Robertson Dillman, Amy Watts Waters, Julie Robertson, Jenny Robertson, Patty Watts and Peyton Watts. He served in the Pacific with the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Following his career in the military, he was the assistant director of personnel at the University of Arkansas until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Sequoyah Methodist Church in Fayetteville, was active in Rotary and served as a volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville until his illness. The family would like to extend their heart-felt appreciation to Holland Nursing Home and to the doctors, staff and volunteers at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center for the kindness, care and attention shown to him. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Sequoyah Methodist Church with the Rev. Sara Bainbridge officiating.
