Hugh Miller, 81, of Berryville departed this life Wednesday, June 28 (2006) in Berryville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the chapel. Interment will be in the Gobbler Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. The son of William Thomas and Vicy Ann (Roberts) Miller was born January 29, 1925, in Rudd. Hugh was a farmer and was self employed in the trucking business.

On March 6, 1944, he was united in marriage with Dixie (Webb) Miller who survives him of the home. He is also survived by four children, Judy and her husband Bill "Bubby" McDonald of Springdale, Joan and her husband, Bob Anderson and Phyllis and her husband Larry Montgomery, all of Berryville and Sandy and her husband, Scott Sackett of Springdale; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and several other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, infant Baby Miller, Denvie David Miller, Parker Miller, Tom Miller, Johnny Miller; and six sisters, Vennie Seitz, Chloe Jones, Ruby Lively, Margie Conner, Lou Duncan, and Jeanette Smith.

Elgie May Watson, 77, of Oark died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late George Tommy and Ethel Simmons Young, widow of Clay Watson, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, Hartsel Watson.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Joe Wood of Oark and Lorene and Joe Clark of Winslow; one brother and sister-in-law, Olen and Grace Young of Deer; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Mossville Church with Rev. George Farquhar officiating.

Burial will be in Mossville Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Clark, Kelly Tenison, Gary Young, Travis Wood, Eddie Skaggs, and Joe Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Wood, Doug Pelfrey, Tracy Jones, Joe Clark, Bart Ledgerwood, Don Smith, and Tommy Young. Lois Gross, 80, of Conway, grandmother of Rhonda Hampton of London, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Heritage Living Center. She was a native of Hector, former resident of Russellville, daughter of the late William Cody and Maudie Loutilda Shuffield Heathcock, widow of Boyce E. Gross, a Free Will Baptist, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Duvall; and two brothers, Glen and James Heathcock.

Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Esther Gross of Conway; two other grandchildren, Ronnie Duvall of Dardanelle and Jason Gross of Conway; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville with Rev. Freddie Goates officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to Faulkner County Senior Citizens, 1620 N. Cecil Underdown, a resident of Alpena, Arkansas, was born April 29, 1927, in Osage, Arkansas, a son of W.H. and Bessie M. (Johnson) Underdown. He departed this life Monday, February 14, 2005, in Alpena at the age of 77.

Cecil was a timber worker. His pastimes including hunting and trapping. Cecil was a veteran, having served our country with the United States Army during World War II. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his sister, Lucille McAlister of Osage; six nephews, Bob McAlister of Alpena, Don McAlister of Green Forest, Arkansas, Ronnie McAlister of Harrison, Arkansas, Larry Underdown of Alpena, Kenny Underdown of Osage, Junior Underdown of Springdale, Arkansas; six nieces, Lucy McNair of Alpena, Mary Armer and Charlene Davidson both of Harrison, Joyce Harrison of Colliersville, Tennessee, Anita Hudson, Mt. Judea, Arkansas, and Debra Thomas of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; his very special friends and caregivers, Ronnie and Cathie Barrett and Donna Kincaid; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Bessie Underdown; two brothers, Troy Clifton Underdown and Eugene Underdown; and two nephews, Dearl Underdown and Troy McAlister. Plumlee Cemetery.

Melbourne Times...November 9, 1933
Frank Shirley aged 73 died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tom Wiseman at Gladewater, Texas, Oct 29 and was buried at Walnut Ridge, Ark. last Thursday. Besides Mrs. Wiseman he is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Ed Bland of Monte Vista, Colorado and two sons, Chester of Walnut Ridge and Ernest of Ota, Wyoming.

Mr. Shirley was a native of this county and lived at Wiseman and at Lunenburg most of his life. He served the county as treasurer four years and was once the Democratic nominee for county judge.

Illness Fatal to North Side Doctor
Dr. R.S. Medearis aged 65, 301 West 19th St. North Little Rock, died at his residence at 7 p.m. last night after a three weeks illness. Dr. Medearis had been an active practicing physician in North Little Rock for 20 years and was prominent in medical work during the influenza epidemic during the World war. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Medearis, one son Robert Anderson Medearis; three daughters, Myrtle, Mellie Kate and Ruth Luella Medearis, all of North Little Rock; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lillian Thibobeaux of Louisiana and Mrs. Blanche McGuire of Fresno, CA and 3 brothers, Albert Medearis of Burbank CA, Frank Medearis of Fresno CA and Dr. P.H. Medearis, of Tallequah, OK. Funeral arrangements will be in charge of Owens and Co.

Funeral services for Dr. Robert S. Medearis, 301 West 19th St. North Little Rock who died at 7 o'clock Saturday night, will be held at 2;30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the family residence. The Rev. J. K. Jobe, pastor of the Central Baptist Church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park in charge of Owens and Company. Dr. Medearis was born in Cincinnati, AR. He came to North Little Rock 20 years ago and since that time has been a practicing physician. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Guys Medical School in London, England and of the University of Paris, France. Active pallbearers will be S.H. Willilamson, Dr. W. M. Ronald R. Disheroon, a resident of Green Forest, Arkansas was born July 22, 1946 in Berryville, Arkansas a son of Lewis E. and LaVeta (Trantham) Conner. He departed this life Tuesday, August 27, 2002 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 56.

Mr. Disheroon was a veteran having served his country with the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam Conflict.

On June 7, 1976 he was united in marriage with Joyce (Underdown) Disheroon who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Sue Wallis of Green Forest; two sons, Kevin and his wife Melanie Disheroon of Green Forest and Kelly and his wife, Mindy Disheroon of Green Forest; his parents, Lewis and LaVeta Conner of Rudd; six brothers, Reb Disheroon of Houston, Texas, Chuck Conner of Rudd, Carroll Conner of Berryville, Gary Conner of the Gobbler community, Eugene Conner of Green Forest and Dale Conner of Berryville; two sisters, Yvonne Etchison of Oak Grove, Arkansas and Earlene Wilson of Berryville; six grandchildren, Jerran Wallis, Lindsey Wallis, Ethan Arana, Kameron Disheroon, Keeton Disheroon and Kole Disheroon; several other relatives and a host of friends. Walter Edgmon, born November 28, 1920; died January 27, 2003. Was born in Swain, AR. to Christopher and Darcus Jane Sams Edgmon.

He was a farmer and worked in a sawmill while living in Arkansas and Missouri. He moved to Coquille, Ore., in 1954, where he worked for Georgia-Pacific for 18 years. He then moved to Kansas City and worked for the Turner School District before retiring to Centerton, Benton County, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 105th Station Hospital in Africa and Italy, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with bronze stars.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Walcie Irene Hodge Edgmon. He was 82 when he passed away at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. Memorials may be made to the Mossville Cemetery, c/o Peggy Curtis, 9790 Highway 279 North, Centerton, 72719. Buried in Mossville Cemetery.

Roy Fay Bartlett, 71, of Compton passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at home. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Plumlee Church with Rev. Charles Christian officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Burial will be in Plumlee Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Kenneth Bartlett, James Bartlett, Jeffery Armer, Earl McGill, Willie Long and Chris Daniels.

The son of Robert and Lula (Plumlee) Bartlett was born May 23, 1934, at Possum Trot. He was a timber worker and farmer and was a member of the Mountain Spring Creek Church.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ida Mae; a daughter, Linda May Bartlett; and a brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Lenora of Compton; two sons, Kenneth Bartlett of Compton and James Bartlett of Bergman; seven grandchildren, Casey Gusosky, Monica Napier, Tasha Bargay, Cody Bartlett, Audrianna Bartlett, Tyler Bartlett and Kyle Bartlett; five great-grandchildren; one stepson, Elmer Plumlee of Nucla, Colo.; two step-daughters, Debra Long of Compton and Tamara McGill of Batavia; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters.

Louella J. McDougal, 89, of Bentonville, died September 21, 2006. She was born February 8, 1917, in Bentonville to Henry and Fannie McRunnels Haney. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bentonville Nazarene Church where she served as Sunday school secretary for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charlie McDougal; a baby daughter, Betty Jean McDougal; two grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, John and wife Doris of Gravette, Harry and wife Mary of Noel, Mo., Jerry of Bentonville, and Bob and wife Debrina of Bentonville; two daughters, Patsy Lovell and husband Leonard of Decatur, Sue Buchanan and husband Charles of Jane, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Backstron-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Bentonville with Leonard Lovell officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Bentonville.

Lenora Dorothy Crutchfield, 79, of Lamar died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. The daughter of Albert and Myrtle Harmon Johnson, she was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Johnson County, Ark. She was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aubrey Lee Crutchfield; seven brothers, Melvin, Earl, Lovell, Donell, Dayton, Leon and Arnold Johnson; and one sister, Ola Allen.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Crutchfield of Yates Center, Kan., Mitchell Crutchfield of Lamar, and Marcus Crutchfield of Lamar; one sister, Anna Bixler of Sikeston, Mol; one brother, Jeff Johnson of Russellville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends.

Funeral will be at 2 PM Monday, December 4, 2006 at Humphrey Chapel with Rev. Larry Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Holman Cemetery at Lamar under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Eula Mae King, 72, passed away April 10, 2005. She was born April 21, 1932 to Truman and Tabitha Harrison Fox. She was the owner of Eula Mae's Beauty Shop in Siloam Springs and retired in 1991. She attended the First United Methodist Church of Siloam Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell King. Survivors include two sons, Bill King and wife Pam of Siloam Springs; Bob King and wife Jodi of Gentry; one daughter, Brenda Rector of Siloam Springs; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Ola Sue Williams of Fayetteville, AR. Services were held at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Dr. David Bush officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, AR. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or to the First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs.

Carmella R. Box was born on October 18, 1926, in Newton County, Arkansas to the late Thomas and Elsie Victoria (Raney) Henry. She died on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in Clarksville, at the age of 80. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist Faith, and a member of the VFW.

She is survived by one son, Charles H. Box, of Clarksville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Carrie Thompson and husband Norman of Anchorage, Alaska, Vickie Romano and husband Andrew of Palmer, Alaska, and Charles D. Box and wife Becky of Clarksville, Arkansas; seven great grandchildren, Alexandria Romano, Donnie Romano, William Romano, Kenneth Thompson, Carmella Thompson, Daniel Box, and Nathaniel Box.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Elsie Victoria (Raney) Henry, and her husband, William Howard Box.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the Oakland Cemetery in Clarksville, Arkansas with Reverend Amos Pledger officiating, arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville (479) 754-2201.

Leo Edgmon age 76, of Myrtle Creek, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2001 at a local care center. He was born July 30, 1924 in Swain, Arkansas, son of William Pickle and Mary (Self) Edgmon. He was united in marriage to Rebia Farrell on May 30, 1944 in Hawthorne, Nevada. He worked in Norway, Oregon from 1947 until 1973 and retired from Roseburg Lumber Company in 1986. Leo enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and crabbing and he loved to work in his garden. He is loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Rebia of Myrtle Creek; children, Mary Prince and her husband Roger of Riddle,OR. Sharon Colman and her husband Gene of Wichita, KA Suzi Riley and her husband Michael of North Bend, OR. William Leo 'Lee' Edgmon of Myrtle Creek, OR; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving four sisters Clara Wing and her husband Leroy of Idaho Falls,ID, Ardeth Konkell of Caldwell, ID, Lois Knight and her husband Johnny of Coquille, OR, Loretta Farrell and her husband George of Arizona. A brother, Franklin Edgmon and his wife Geniva of Eugene, OR, many nieces and nephews.

His parents, two sisters, Pearley and Faye and three brothers, Vern, Clyde and Ray preceded him in death.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Mortuary with private family services to be held at a later time.

Arnold Lee Carter, 79, of Burley, Ida., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008. He was born at Deer, the son of John and Etta Davis Carter. He was the grandson of a.W. and Ora Foy Davis. He was retired as manager from Boise Cascade Corp. in 1998. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Gilbert of San Diego, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; a son, Ronald; a daughter, Barbara; a brother, Kenneth Paul Carter of Concord, Calif.; three sisters, Mari Carter Holt of Mt. Judea, Lonna O'Neal of Manteca, Calif. and Jimmie Casey of Mena; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Citizen of Snowball Passed Away Sunday Elbert N. Loudermilk was born September 8, 1890, at Eula, Arkansas. He died March 14, 1954, at the Boone County Hospital, Harrison, Ark., making his age 63 years, 6 months, 6 days. All of his life was spent at Eula, Arkansas, except the past eight years during which time he lived at Snowball, Ark. Mr. Loudermilk was united in marriage to Miss Anna McCutcheon, September 5, 1910. To this home were born four children; two daughters, Mrs. Erma Hampton of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Audra Long of Snowball, Ark., and two sons, Argus Loudermilk of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Alton Loudermilk of Snowball. The deceased is survived by his wife, these children and one half-brother, Roy Lemons; two half-sisters, Mrs. Nora Paty and Mrs. Flossy Smith, all of. Arvin, California There are also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In July, 1932 Mr. Loudermilk was converted and baptized. His presence will be missed by many relatives and friends. Pallbearers were: Elvis Hampton, T.L. Hendrix, Jr, Mitchell McCutcheon, Vernon Dickey, Silas Taylor, Lloyd McCutcheon.

Songs were: 'Farther Along,' 'No Tears in Heaven,' 'Precious Memories.'

Flower Girls were: Donna Jean Wells, Johnnie Bolen, Quindora Bradley, Shelby Jean Taylor, Anneta McElroy, Mary Jo Casey. The funeral service was at the Garrett Memorial Presbyterian Church on March 17th conducted by the Rev. Vernie L. Bartlett, pastor of the church. Burial was by the Masonic Lodge in the McDaniel Cemetery near Snowball, and funeral arrangements were under the direction of the North Arkansas Funeral Home.

Neff Cannafax, 86, of Berryville died August 10, 2003, at Berryville. He was born October 28, 1916, in Berryville to John Smith Cannafax and Laura Snow. He was a 1938 graduate of Berryville High School and later taught school at Clearwater School and at New Hope until 1940, when he joined the Air Force, serving in the South Pacific as a technical sergeant during World War II. He was an employee of Tyson Foods until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the New Bethel United Baptist Church. He married Bernice Fry on December 25, 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of the home; one son, Leonard Cannafax and wife Everta of Springdale; two daughters, Lorene Cannafax of Plano, Texas, and Louise Brooks and husband Larry of Berryville; three grandchildren, Michelle Brooks of Conway, Robyn Capps of Berryville and Amy Goolsby of Springdale; one nephew, Don Sugg of Harrison. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Nelson Funeral Service in Berryville with the Rev. Herb Berkley and the Rev. Robert Carson officiating. Burial was in the Snow Cemetery.

Bernice B. Cannafax, age 91 of Berryville, Arkansas passed away on June 10, 2008 in The Maples Long Term Care facility in Springdale, Arkansas after a short illness of Congestive Heart Failure. She was born January 21, 1917 in San Gabriel, California to Erwin and Cora (Dunham) Fry. She married Neff Cannafax December 25, 1945 in Alhambra, California, but then moved to the Snow Community shortly thereafter to spend her next 60+ years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. She was a life time dedicated member of the Church of the Nazarene. She retired in 1985 after 25 years with Kraft Foods.

She is survived by her daughters Louise Brooks and husband, Larry of Berryville, Lorene Cannafax of Plano, Texas and son Leonard Cannafax and wife, Everta of Springdale; grandchildren Michelle Leising and husband, Wayne of Columbus, Georgia, Robyn Capps and husband, Josh of Berryville, and Amy Goolsby of Springdale; great-grandson Benjamin Goolsby of Springdale; devoted and loving friends Don and Ellie Ham, Mary Louise Chittenden, and Sharold Rousey all of Berryville; numerous other loving relatives and family friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Hazel Danielson and Charlotte Shetler, and her loving companion dog, Guy.

Services will be held, Monday, June 16, 2008 at 11 am at the Nelson Funeral Chapel in Berryville and immediately following she will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Snow Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Sunday evening, June 15, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm at the Nelson Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cannafax Memorial Fund at Church of the Nazarene, 204 Trinnen Lane, Berryville, Arkansas, 72616.
