Edward G. 'Eddie' Ferrell, 55, of Blacksburg, Virginia died Aug. 29, 1998. He was born July 25, 1943, to William Robert and Rita Ferrell. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg and was a head football trainer at Virginia Tech for 28 years. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and held posts at the UA, Oregon State University and the Minnesota Vikings. He earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Virginia Tech.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Gordon Ferrell, to whom he was married 30 years; two daughters, Rachael and Rebecca; two sons, Daniel and William; one daughter-in-law, Karen Ferrell; his mother of Fayetteville; four brothers, Joseph, William, Robert and Richard Ferrell; five sisters, Rachel McGrew, Rita Keever, Ann Wilson, Carol Jane Duer and Virginia Russell. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald Lemay officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery at Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg, with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with a reception following the service. Constance Jane Butler, 39, of Springdale died Aug. 30, 1998, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born Oct. 11, 1958, in Bradford, Pa., to Lloyd and Doreen Federspiel. She moved to Springdale in 1977 from Columbia, Mo. She was a 1976 graduate of Bradford High School and attended the University of Missouri and in 1996 received a B.A. degree in nursing from the University of Arkansas. She taught school at Jones Elementary in Springdale and was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Springdale, where she was Bible-study leader, youth adviser and served on the membership committee and the ACTS drama team. She was preceded in death by her father.
| Survivors include her husband, Martin D. Butler of the home, to whom she was married May 28, 1979; her mother of Bradford; one son, Nathaniel M. Butler of Springdale; one daughter, Nicole A. Butler of Springdale; three brothers, Tom Federspiel of Bradford, Terry Federspiel of Rochester, N.Y., and Brad Federspiel of South Carolina; two sisters, Bonnie Black of Springdale and Susan Federspiel of Livingston, Mont. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Keith Marinus officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia. Pallbearers will be Ken Butler, Doug Butler, Kim Butler, Bill Moeller, Tom Baumgarten, Tom Federspiel and Brad Federspiel. Arrangements are by Sisco Chapel of Springdale. Virginia Brook Cannon, 83, of Watts, Oklahoma died Aug. 30, 1998, at West Siloam Springs, Okla. She was born March 17, 1915, in Watts to Elmer and Nina Vance Smith. She was a life resident of Watts and a homemaker and a Baptist.
| Survivors include four sons, Bob Cannon of Wichita, Kan., Donald Cannon of Siloam Springs, James Cannon and Larry Cannon, both of John Day, Ore.; three daughters, Irene Jordan and Babs Nolen, both of Siloam Springs, and Brenda Huckabone of Reeds Spring, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Smith and Vance Smith, both of California. Arrangements are pending at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. Virginia B. Cannon Watts, Okla. - Virginia Brooke Cannon, 83, of Watts died Aug. 30, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. John August (Grand Pa Rocky) Sloan, 96, of Tempe, Arizona died Aug. 30, 1998, at Tempe. He was born Aug. 9, 1902, in Jasper to Alfonso Brook and Florence Mae Atwood Sloan.
| He lived in Bidville for many years and California before moving to Quartzsite, Ariz., where he operated a rock shop for many years. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Blythe, Calif. He attended Greenland High School. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Anita Louise Todd and Dean of Tempe; three granddaughters, Sherri Statler of Abilene, Texas, Lisa Cole of Grand Canyon, Ariz., and Amy Stults of Abilene; one grandson, Jeffery Todd of Chandler, Ariz.; two great-grandsons. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bidville Cemetery under the direction of Nelson's Funeral Home of Fayetteville. {mn}

| Garland E. Spencer, 86, of Jasper, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Mo. Funeral is 10 a.m. Friday, July 28 at Jasper Assembly of God with Rev. Troy Walker officiating. Burial in Mt. Sherman Cemetery under the direction of Christeson Funeral Home. Open visitation.
He was born Jan. 19, 1914 at Mt. Sherman the son of the late Alonzo and Ersia Kilgore Spencer. He was a machinist for Allied Signal in Kansas City, Mo. He was a past president of the Newton County Senior Center Advisory Committee and had been active in the Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Spencer. Survivors are a son, David E. Spencer of Raymore, Mo.; a daughter, Kathleen Franklin of Jasper; three sisters, Hazel Opal Coffey, Oma Engle and Jo L. Alden all of Mt. Sherman; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Robert Faulkner, Dennis Hoglen, Brian Newby, Mac Spencer, Warren Self and Tony Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Otis Davis, Jr., Jim Kilgore and Dr. Geoffrey Dunaway. {hdt}

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3 at Liberty Assembly of God with Arlis Thrasher officiating under the direction of Christeson Funeral Home. Visitation will be open. Burial will be in Gass Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy House, Harold Young, Dale Ramsey, Herman Young, Mike Atwell and Matthew Sharp. The daughter of the late Lester Grant and Rachael Spencer Young was born on July 23, 1910 in Ponca. She was a resident of Carroll County for six years and a prior resident of Boone County and was a member of the Liberty Assembly of God Church. She was united in marriage to Myron Sharpe in 1939 and was a housewife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Bobby Lee Huett, four sisters and a brother. She is survived by a son, Bobby Lynn Sharpe of Harrison; a daughter, Dianna Wallis of Berryville; great-grandchildren, Toni Marie and Matthew Sharpe and Taylor Sharpe; a great-great-granddaughter, Haylee Marie Sharpe; a brother, Ottie Ward Young of Ponca; and seven nephews and two nieces. {nct}

| Alice Ward Roberts, 101, of Rogers died July 30, 2000. She was born March 20, 1899, in Maynard County, Texas, to Christopher Hornbuckle and Nancy Looper Johnson. She moved to Northwest Arkansas 54 years ago from Texline, Texas. She was a homemaker and a Christian. She had worked for the railroad, washing locomotives. She was preceded in death by her husbands, G.P. Roberts and N.J. Ward. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Roberts of Elm Springs and Dearl Roberts of Cave Springs; six stepchildren; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Cemetery, north of Cave Springs, with Pat Robinson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. {mn}

Self was born Feb. 16, 1917, in Newton County, Arkansas, a daughter of Robert James and Dessie Belle Meiers Edgeman. On Sept. 6, 1939, she married Hayden Powell Self in Mossville, Ark. He died in December 1983. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Self, Belle Plaine; three daughters, Glenna Ellis, Solomon, Nancy Sanders, Salina, and Eva 'Christine' Troutman, South Haven; four sisters, Susie Watson, Fort Collins, Colo., Melvie Self and Bertha Watson, both of Springdale, Ark., and Rose Clark, Stark, Mo., and 11 grandchildren.

Louvenia Jane Howard, 104, of Russellville died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. The daughter of William and Babe Cordelia Ross Phillips,
she was born Aug. 12, 1901, in Fort Douglas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mill Creek Church of Christ.
| She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Howard; her parents; a daughter, Alice Howard; three sisters, Clara Carter, Annie B. Waterman and Ella Mae Tilton; five brothers, Claud, Gus, George, Robert and Heartsel Phillips; two stepsisters, Leva Stone and Ollie Ross; and a stepbrother, Homer Terry. Survivors includ two brothers, Frank Phillips of Lampasas, Texas, and Marion Phillips and wife, violet of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and numberous nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 10 AM Wednesday at Humphrey Chapel. Vernon Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Burgess Cemetery by Humphrey Funeral Service. | Courier Democrat, March 22, 1906...I. B. Davis died at his home west of Russellville Saturday night, March 17, and was laid to rest Sunday at the old Williamson graveyard. Mr. Davis was an old citizen of the county and was well and favorably known to all the older citizens.
