Her husband, Fred Duty, died in 1944. Survivors include three daughters, Fred Evon Bunch of Kingston, Ina Verne Pendergrass and husband A.R. of Little Rock and Nina Lee Fowler and husband Bill of Boxley; one sister, Mary John McFerrin of Denver, Colo.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boxley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Claud Williams officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Boxley under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville. Pallbearers will be Gary Bunch, Chad Bunch, William Pendergrass, Michael Fowler, Ruben Johnson, Skip Emmett, Cale Emmett, Gary Farmer, Kenny Tomasich and Fowler Tomasich. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Duty, Dennis House, Elvin Samuels, Dr. Ivan Box and the staff of Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville. John Signer, age 88, of Harrison, died Friday, November 19, 2004, at his home. He was born December 26, 1915, in Albany, New York, the son of John A. and Claire (Condon) Signer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Johnny Signer. John Signer was a member of the Mary Mother of God Catholic Church. He was a US Navy veteran having served during World War II.
Pop is survived by his wife, Billie (Touchstone) Signer, of the home; his sons, Sean Signer and his wife Cindy, Jerry Signer, Andrew Signer and Michael Signer; his daughters, Laurie (Signer) Foster, Cheryl George, and Faye Smith; his step-children, Terry Hardaway, Maloch Gavagan, Kay and Mike Mahoney, Tony and Jill Hardaway, Tim and Rachael Hardaway and Mary H. Moore; his sister, Ann Kulzer; Pop's "southern" grandchildren who hold a special place in their heart for him, Nathan Hardaway, Jacob Waganer, Krystal, Haley, Ashley, Lauren and Jewely Hardaway; numerous other dearly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his nephew, John Kulzer and his wife Linda; his niece, Carla Hebert; his grand-nephew, Christopher Hebert and his wife Michelle; and a host of friends throughout the community. Jerry Lee James, 61, of Green Forest, Arkansas, died Wednesday morning, November 24, 2003, at his home. He was born July 28, 1943 at Flippin, Arkansas the second son of Manuel and the late Vera (Parnell) James.
On August 13, 1967 he was united in marriage with Peggy Ann (Martin) James who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Lise Renee Liles and husband, Brian Liles of Texarkana; a son Robert Lynn James and wife Tiffany of Springdale; his father and stepmother, Manuel and Bunice James of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Don James of Pangburn, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Buddy Martin of Vilonia; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Jones of Springfield, Arkansas and Betty Campbell of Conway, Arkansas; seven nieces and five nephews; eleven great-nieces and three great-nephew; and a host of friends. {hdt} |

George W. Cox, 74, one of the old citizens of Fort Smith, died Sunday evening at 9:30 at his residence at 402 North Twentieth street. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the residence. Rev. J.S. Seneker of the Seventh street Methodist church officiating. Internment will be in Oak cemetery. The Confederate veterans will attend the funeral in a body.
Mr. Cox leaves his widow, a son, Breedlove Cox of Greenwood and a daughter, Mrs. Louise Maier of St. Joseph, Mo. He served four years in the Confederate army.
Mr. Cox had lived in this city for many years, having driven a stage coach here in the early days. Later he was employed by the McLeod Sparks Furniture company and the C.J. Murta Furinture [sic] company.

Laura Elizabeth Stevens....from She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and six sisters many years ageo. She leaves to mourn her passing numerous neices and nephews and a host of friend. for she was loved by everyone that knew her. Aunt Lizzie was a Christian She gave her life to Christ in Baptism 50 years ago uniting with the Methodist Church. But all her life she lived for him. {RDH Note: I recall Aunt Lizzie, she was a maternal aunt of my brother-in-law, Eugene Hutchins. Aunt Lizzie was blind all of her life.
