Anna Mabel Norris, 82, of Reeds Spring, Mo., formerly of Green Forest, died Tuesday, Oct. 17 (2000) in Kimberling City, Mo. Funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Nelson Chapel in Green Forest. Burial in the Pickens Cemetery. She was born Oct. 18, 1917 in Green Forest, a daughter of Aaron and Lola Stanhope Hamel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlis E. Norris. {mn} |

Wayne Cagle, age 26, of Harrison, died Friday, January 13, 2006, in Harrison. He was born January 8, 1980, in Harrison, the son of Donald W. and Sandra Sue (Coffman) Cagle. He was preceded in death by his mother; a very special friend and mother of his child; and his grandfathers, John H. Cagle and Junior Coffman. Wayne graduated with his GED and attended North Arkansas College. He loved the outdoors and going to the river. Donald Wayne Cagle, Jr. is survived by his father, Donald Wayne Cagle, of Peel, Arkansas; his step-father, Ron Youngblood, of Harrison; his son, Mason Cagle, of Harrison; his sister, Angela Cagle Brake, of Protem, Missouri; his brother, Brandon Youngblood, of Harrison; his grandmothers, Lennie Cagle of Peel and Connie Roller of Harrison; his nephew, Jordan Brake, of Protem; and a host of other relatives and friends. Rev. Jerry Bryant officiated the funeral service. Pallbearers were George Cagle, Pate Cagle, Rick Jones, Wayne Coffman, Brandon Youngblood and Greg Rhyne. Grace Marie (Jones) Durkin, 88, of Green Forest, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Green Forest. She was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Milan, Ohio, daughter of Charles M. and Mae Louise Jones. On Sept. 6, 1930, she married Michael J. Durkin Sr., in Chicago, Ill., where they resided until they retired to Green Forest in September 1970. She was the mother of five children, Michael J. Durkin Jr. (Maurine Dollar) of Atlanta, Ga., Joan Grace Sumerfelt (Donald J.) of Green Forest, James Willard Durkin of Chicago, Kathleen Durkin Hudelson (Richard) of Green Forest, and James Terrence Durkin (Kathleen O'Conner) of Burnham, Ill. She had 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Willard Durkin; and a daughter, Joan Grace Sumerfelt. Mrs. Durkin was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Berryville. She was a life member of the Carroll Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and she initiated the "Booties for Newborns" program, hand-crocheting the first 500 pairs. She was one of the founding contributors to The St. Jude Hospital for Children in Memphis, Tenn. She was an active member of the Green Forest Garden Club for many years. She hand-crocheted the facing altar cloth depicting the Last Supper that hangs on the main altar at St. Peter's Cathedral in Chicago. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Anne's Church in Berryville. Interment will follow at the Pickens Cemetery in Green Forest. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the Nelson Funeral Home in Green Forest. Helen Porter, 90, of Harrison died Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2002 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Apr. 12 at Holt Memorial Chapel with Randy Sutterfield officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 11 at Holt Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Pickens Cemetery in Green Forest. Pallbearers will be Bobby Oats, Malcolm Mounce, Justin Bryan, Bill Stevens, Lecil Bassett and Joe Methias. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. The daughter of the late John Lemuel Porter and Maggie May DeBurger Porter was born on Jan. 13, 1912 in Green Forest. A longtime elementary school teacher at Alpena, she was affectionately known to her students as 'Miss Helen.' She was a member of a non-denominational church which met in her home as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. She is survived by her sister, Cliffie Moore of Harrison; a nephew, Jim Moore and his wife, Helen; a grandnephew, James Moore, all of Riverside, Calif.; several cousins; and many friends. {mn} |

Mrs. Carney was a member of Nail Christian Union Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John Carney, a daughter Jaunita Harderson, two grandsons, a granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include five sons, Doyle and Virl Carney of Nail, Mirl Carney of Kansas City, Kansas; Delbert Carney of Russeville, and Limon Carney of Huntsville. Three daughters Floy willis of Kansas City, Kansas, Ruth Smith of Russellville, and Nola Mae Williams of Ozone. Two brothers, George Watson of Shiloh and Lewis Watson of Springdale. Six sisters: Adar Reynolds of Springdale, Nancy Sams and Leta Rylee of Shiloh, Ida Willis and Mae Neal of Springdale, and Nola Edgmon of Springdale. 39 grandchildren. 68 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Moleane Williams Barenz, 69, of Gravette, Ark., died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center of Washington County in Springdale, Ark. She was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Owls Bend, Mo., to Virgil Clinton Williams and Lula Alice Knuckles Williams. Her family moved to Colorado from Missouri, then later migrated to Arkansas by way of Kansas. She lived in the Oak Grove community of Springdale, Ark., for more than 30 years. In 2002, she moved to Gravette after losing her home to a fire. She was an accountant for 29 years; owned her own business, Excella-Grow Plants and Gifts; and ran a boarding house. She began exploring her interest in art at the age of 60. In 2000, her painting 'Splattered Irises' was donated to Spring Fest 2000 in Fayetteville, Ark. She had also donated and sold a number of paintings over the last 10 years. She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Ferocious. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Gerald 'Dank' Williams; another brother, Denver McCabe; and a sister, Christine Meade. Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Karen Grigg and James Grigg of Bentonville, Ark., Susan Edgmon and Bill Edgmon of Gravette, Tamara Brandenburg and Ervin Brandenburg of Jane, Mo., Carla Stacy of Tulsa, Okla., and Sherri Gillman and Michael Gillman of Rogers, Ark.; four brothers, Paul Williams of Grand Junction, Colo., Roy 'Gene' Williams of Bunker, Mo., Floyd 'Tuk' Williams of Naturita, Colo., and Willard Williams; three sisters, Jewell Narramore of Naturita, Oneita Sutherland of Nucla, Colo., and Wilma Phillips of Letts, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church between Hiwasse, Ark., and Gravette. Denver Mathews, 87, of Bentonville died Friday, October 11, 2002. He was born September 15, 1915, in Benton County, Ark., and was the son of Issac Benton Mathews, and Tennie Gailey Mathews. He was a retired real estate investor, and car salesman, and a lifelong Democrat. Denver enjoyed fishing, hunting, and attended the Hiwasse Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Garnetta Smith and Alleen Pattrum. Survivors include his wife Nona Faye Mathews of the home; a daughter, Kay Mathews of Arlington, Va.; a niece Sue Pierce, of Centerton; a nephew James Dawson, of Centerton; also Carol Ann Dixon, of Anderson, Mo., Connie Mathews, of Independence, Mo., Catherine Calkins, of Cushing, Okla., and James Mathews, of Perry, Okla.
