Richard Othomer Barr, 78, of Springdale died Feb. 4, 1998, in Springdale. He was born June 11, 1919, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dow Othomer and Ada Galdys Hoke Barr. He was a Methodist, and a member of the U.S. Armed Forces. He was preceded in death by two sons. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Barr and Donald Barr, both of Des Moines, Iowa. Retired Col. Robert Preston Story, 76, of Springdale died Aug. 21, 2000, in Springdale. He was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Griffithville to John W. and Ella Mathes Story. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springdale and was a retired teacher from the Harrison school system. He served in the Army during World War II and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 1948 graduate of the ROTC at the University of Arkansas, where he received his Army commission. He served 24 years in the Army with two tours in the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge, as well as other medals, before retiring as a colonel. He was a volunteer chemistry and physics teacher at Fayetteville Christian School for three years and a volunteer teacher at the Ozark Literacy Council for 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Juanita 'Nita' Story of the home; one son, Robert Preston Story Jr. of Fayetteville; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Story Abram and Julian of Fayetteville; one sister, Lena Ruth Pearson of Searcy; one granddaughter, Kelly Ann Story of Fayetteville. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Springdale with the Rev. Audie Long and the Rev. Charles Ashcraft officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale. Private burial is to be at 10 a.m. Thursday in National Cemetery at Fayetteville. Hiram Wayne Sharp, 85, of Fayetteville, died Jan. 11, 2003, at the Fayetteville City Hospital Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Prairie Grove to Oscar Miles and Mary Tilford Strickler Sharp. He was a Presbyterian. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from the University of Arkansas. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1 in Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Glendora Sharp of the home; one daughter, Betty Jo Ezell and husband James of Fayetteville; one son, Dr. Jim Sharp, and wife Dolores of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Eula G. 'Eldridge' Bruce, 86, of Springdale died Jan. 3, 2003, at Northwest Medical Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1916, at Taylor Springs, Ill., to Willie and Amy Mose Bass. She was a member of the Holiness Chapel Church and was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Eldridge in 1970 and Hershel Bruce in 1990, one stepdaughter, Winnie Thomas, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include three sons, Arles Eldridge and his wife, Karen, Johnnie Eldridge and his wife, Jamie, and Ernest Eldridge and his wife, Nadine, all of Springdale; one stepdaughter, Mertie Roberts of Elm Springs; one brother, Charlie Bass of Oklahoma; one sister, June Savage of Springdale; nine grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Wanda Relethford Barnes, 81, of Bentonville died Oct. 1, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Garfield to Willie H. and Ada Lawrence Relethford. She was a life resident of the area and taught in the Bentonville school system for more than 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and quilting. Her husband, Chester Barnes, died in 1982. Peggy Winterset, 81, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at her home in Parthenon. She was born March 16, 1921 in Detroit, Mich., daughter of the late Earl D. and Lucy Evelyn (Heath) Winegar. She was a public school teacher for many years and retired from Oakland Community College, Orchard Ridge in 1986 as an Associate Professor and Guidance Counselor. She was a member of Greenpeace, MEA, Planned Parenthood, WWF and ZPG. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Winegar; and two daughters, Lorelei Oberman and Julianne Weber. She enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening and crafts. Wade was a faithful member of the Mossville United Baptist Church for 33 years and he served in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eddie Joe Edgmon and two sisters, Velma Sparks and Eileen Woods. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Charlene Edgmon of Mossville; three brothers J E and Ward Edgmon of Low Gap, Arkansas and Lawton Edgmon of Mossville; six sisters Cleo Lager of Low Gap, Bertha Reynolds of Cassville, Glenna Reynolds of Mossville, Louise Grubb of Springdale, Bonnie Regier and Ruby Hollon of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services for George Alvin Snow, aged 80, were held Monday, March 15, in the United Methodist Church, Lane, Kan. Mr. Snow died Friday, March 11, 1977, in the University of Kansas City Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., after a long illness. He was born Feb. 16, 1897 in Berryville, and his parents were John and Alzena Brashears Snow. He grew up and attended schools there. Mr. Snow served in the U.S. Army during World War I. On Sept. 1, 1923, he married Ellen Olive Phillips Hammond. They moved to the Lane area in 1928. Mr. Snow worked for several years as the custodian of the Lane schools and later became engaged in buying and selling cattle. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lane, Kan. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 20, 1964. Among the survivors are two sons, George Snow, Jr. and Robert Snow of Lane, Kan; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice McDougal of Greenley, Kan.; two brothers, Joe Snow of Bremerton, Wash., and Neff Snow of Berryville; two sisters, Mrs. Cleat Freeman and Mrs. Annabelle Anderson of Berryville, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Rev. Claude Scheuerman officiating at the services, with burial in the Lane Cemetery. Military services were held at the graveside.
