J. C. 'Jay' Faught, 71 of Hot Springs died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in a local hospital.

Born July 22, 1930, at Hot Springs to Jim and Georgia Rosetta Bain Faught, he was a member and groundskeeper at Rockdale Missionary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl faught and Gail Faught; and three sisters, Jewell Carter, Girlie Johnson and Lois Covey.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Faught of Hot Springs; two sons and daughter-in-law, James Faught Jr. of The Dalles, Wash., and Gregory Lee and Andrea Faught of Hot Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Lyn and Mac Mimaki of Phelan, Calif., one sister, Imogene Smith of Hot Springs; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Caruth-Hale Funeral Home chapel with Brother Clyde Edds officiating. Full military honors will be performed by Thaddeus H. Caraway VFW Post 2278 Honor Gaurd. Honorary Pallbearers are Donald Smith, Paul Crabtree, Freddie Moody, and Advance Care three east staff. The body will be cremated.

Harry Wayne Carlton, 77, of Swain died September 6, 1999 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born June 21, 1922, in Swain to Joseph Rastus 'J. R.' and Iva Harriet Thomas Carlton. He was a marine Corps veteran of World War II and an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Tulsa, Okla., for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie M. Archer Carlton of Swain; two sons, Chris Carlton and Jack David Carlton, both of Tulsa; on brother; Jack Carlton of Springdale; four grandchildren; thee great-grandchildren.

Bert Howerton, 87, of Kingston died Aug. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born July 13, 1913, in George (Newton County) to Bent and Lizzie Watts Howerton. He was a farmer and a former resident of Dry Fork. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lucille Seitz Howerton.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Leroy Howerton and Judy of Kingston; four daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline Spencer and Mitchell of Springdale, Patsy Parker and James and Janet Cain and Phillip, all of Kingston and Helen Holiday and Wayne of Hindsville; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Gobbler Church with the Rev. J.W. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Gobbler Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

To this marriage were born 4 children, 2 boys & 2 girls. She leaves to morn her departure her husband Sam Colter of the home, Mavis Colter of the home, Davis Colter of Bellflower, California, Lena May Vaughn of Melbourne, Ark., Zena Ray Sartin of Melbourne, Ark., One brother; Ruben O'Neal of Violet Hill, Ark., Two sisters: Mrs. Callie Jones of Wenatchee, Wash. and Miss Magdelene O'Neal of Melbourne, Ark., and a host of relatives and friends. She was a Christian and belonged to the Free Will Baptist Church.

Leslie Wayne 'Sam' Butts, 66, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Huntsville, died April 23, 1999 at the Department of Veterans Affaires Medical Center in Wichita. He was born January 3, 1933 at Boston, Arkansas, the son of Walter A. and Hannah Belle Seals Butts. He was employed by Cessna Aircraft in Wichita prior to moving to Arkansas and was a veteran of the Korean War, Serving in the united States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Kingston Lodge #116, Independent Order of Oddfellows and was active in the Masonic fraternity holding memberships in Swain Lodge #765, Freeland Accepted Masons, Huntsville Lodge #364, Free and Accepted Mason, Huntsville Chapter #154, Royal Arch Masons, Huntsville Council #77, Royal and Select Masters, Saint John's Commandery #36, Knight sTemplar and the Western Arkansas Scottish Rite Bodies at Fort Smith.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Evelyn Swift Butts on January 12, 1991.

Survivors include: two sons, Jeffery W. Corey of Easton, Pennsylvania and Terry A. Butts of Wichita, Kansas: one brother, Doyle Butts of Lynnville, Indiana: two sisters, Mrs. Ossie Pianalto of La Habra, California and Mrs. Velma Hattabaugh of Durham, Arkansas; and three grandsons Jacob Butts and Clint Butts, both of Lawtey, Florida and Anthony Foster of Wichita, Kansas.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the Chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Masonic Rites by Huntsville Lodge #364, Free and Accepted Masons. Interment was in the Boston Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home. Pallbearers were members of Huntsville Lodge #364, Free and Accepted Masons.{mcr}

Orpha Barnwell Chandler, 80, of Bentonville, Ark., died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002. She was born June 26, 1921, in Hartman, Ark., to Samuel Marion and Stella Thomas Marion.

She worked at the Wal-Mart Printing, Mailing and Distribution Center for several years, retiring in 1989. She became a Christian in her early 20s and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Church near Hiwasse, Ark.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Carthel Barnwell and W. N. 'Pete' Chandler; and a sister, Fran Marion Wood.

Survivors include a daughter, Sonia Barnwell-Londagin of Bentonville; a brother, James Sandlin of Bentonville; four sisters, Doris McBee of Lamar, Mo., Earline Rankin and Rose Mason, both of Bentonville, and Peggy Bertschy of Gravette, Ark.; a granddaughter, Terri Jo Londagin of Rogers, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel in Bentonville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Church near Hiwasse, Ark., with Jack Sandlin.

Janice V. Casey, 61, of Clarksville died Sunday, November 5, 2000, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was retired, a member of the Salus Free Holiness Church and Order of Eastern Star, and daughter of the late Norman Ned and Elease Voy Murray Henderson.

She is survived by three sisters, Sherry Boen, Pamela Terry and Kutrenia Turner, all of Ozone; one brother, Jay D. Henderson of Clarksville; and several nieces, nephews great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Salus Free Holiness Church with Rev. Robert Boen and Rev. Larry Willis officiating.

Burial will be in Wayton Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Jordan, Wesley Turner, Donnie Terry, Everett Turner, Mike Goni, and Terry Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Henderson, Jeff Carlton, Steven Carlton, Michael Carlton, and Jeremy Boen.

Lawrence Gordon Cate, 88, of Springdale died March 12, 2001, at Springdale.

He was born April 3, 1912, in Sonora to Stewart and Elizabeth Fink Cate.

He was retired from the grocery business and was a 40-year member of the Odd Fellows and a member of Robinson Avenue Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie M. Smith Cate, to whom he was married July 26, 1934; two sons, Glenn Cate and Charles Cate, both of Springdale; one brother, Leo Cate of Springdale; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sisco Chapel in Springdale with Dub DeLoach and Gary Frazier officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Porter, Earl Cate, Ernest Cate, Dwaine Steele, Harold Gooden and Derek Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Goucher, John Dearman and Dan Lange. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. {mn}

J. B. Parker, 47, of Rt. 2, Box 435, Huntsville, Ark., died May 9, 1990, at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 28, 1942, at Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Albert Dalton and Lizzie Kay Stamps Parker.

He was Madison County foreman for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Post #10021, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Huntsville.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joyce Whorton Parker of the home; one son, Marty Joe Parker of the home; one daughter, Miss Anita Kay Parker of the home; two brothers, Rex. B. Parker of Williamstown, N.J., and James D. Parker of Huntsville.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Shackelford officiating. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ralph Cline, Gary Fancher, Fred Ficht, Sam Howell, Bill Harbison and William Styles. Honorary pallbearers were Herb Jordan, Arvel McConnell, Kenny Riley, Doyle Root, Sue King, Burl Walker, Randal Whorton, Howard Harper, and Butch Fancher.

Grace Caldwell, 76, of Pocahontas died May 19, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Croweburg, Kan., to Joseph and Emma Trotter Barton.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Falkenstein of Seligman, Mo., Cathy Flowers of Carthage, Mo., and Janet Clark of Lebanon, Mo.; one brother, Bill Trotter of Gateway; one sister, Jean Thomas of Rogers; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Wesleyan Church with Gary Snow officiating. Burial will be in Bland Cemetery at Rogers. Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers and Cox-Waymond Funeral Home in Pocahontas.

She was born March 7, 1944, at Jasper, daughter of the late Fred and Arple (Reddell) Carter. She was the wife of Dorvin Campbell.

Charlotta May Campbell, age 57 of Pelsor, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison. She was born March 7, 1944 at Jasper, Arkansas a daughter to Brad and Arpie (Reddell) Carter. She was a housewife and a life time resident of Newton County.

She was precede in death by her parents and three brothers, Charles Carter, Julie Carter and Hancel Carter.

Survivors are her husband, Dorvin Campbell of the home; two sons, Lorne Campbell of Pelsor and Warren Campbell of Piercetown; one daughter, Sondra DeLynn Campbell of the home; two brothers, James Carter of Piercetown and Travis Carter of Flemington, Missouri; one sister, Louella Carter of Sherwood, AR; three grandchildren and a very special friend, Linda Stuckey of Pelsor.

Services were Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Piercetown Holiness Church with Rev. Rex Middleton officiating. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery at Vendor under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23.

June Bennett, 73, of Boston, Arkansas, died February 27, 2001 at her home. She was born April 11,1927 at Boston, Arkansas, the daughter of Ed and Ruby Silvis Johnson. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the New Home Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Calvin Bennett who died on June 19, 1999.

Survivors include: her husband, Otto Bennett of the home; one son and two daughters-in-law, Glen and JoAnn Bennett and Linda Bennett, all of Boston, Arkansas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Fern and Doug Thornberry and Janice and Herb Jordan, all of Boston, Arkansas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean and Lorene Johnson of Huntsville, Arkansas and Foye and Louise Johnson of Pettigrew, Arkansas; one sister and brother-in-law, Fonda and Dale Callaway of Pettigrew, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and ten great- .grandchildren.

Mrs. Daphne Lydia Clark 69, Route 1, Springdale, died July 13 in the Springdale Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1910 at Kingston, she was the daughter of the Rev. Jim and Scenia Moore Grigg, the widow of Joseph Samuel Clark and was a member of Regular Primitive Baptist Church in Elm Springs.

Survivors include one son, Willie J. D. Clark of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Geneva Pennington of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mrs Lonnie Cook and Mrs. Ettie Thomas of Springdale; and three Grandchildren.

Services were at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 17. She married Joseph Samuel Clark, in Madison County, Arkansas born on 14 Sep 1905 in Newton County, Arkansas. Joseph Samuel died in Springdale, Washington Arkansas on 8 Jul 1978 he was 72 Buried in Friendship Cemetery Springdale, Washington Co., AR. {mcr,mn}

Leo 'Brack' Champlin age 85 of Cave City, Arkansas died on Saturday, December 23, 2000 at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born on June 28, 1915 at Lilly, Kentucky, a son of Hugh Champlin and Mary Arlena (Bullins) Champlin. He had worked in the timber industry and had lived in Cave City for about three and a half years moving there from Huntsville.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene Champlin of the home; two infant sisters; one daughter of the home; one brother Clyde Champlin of Springdale and three step-mothers, Parylee (Bullins) Champlin of Redstar, Lou (Edgmon) Champlin of Swain, and Nanna Belle (Read) Champlin of Clarksville.

Survivors are one son, Alvis Eugene Champlin of Holts Summit, Missouri one brother, Hugh 'Bill' Champlin of Cave City, two grandsons; Toby and Robert Champlin of Springdale, and other relatives and friends.

Services were Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at the Mossville United Baptist Church with Brother James Compton officiating. Internment followed in the Mossville Cemetery under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.

Pallbearers were Arnold Champlin; Fred Champlin; Toby Champlin; Harold Hilton; Jim Youngblood and Coy Willis. Honorary Pallbearer was Gene Harris. {nct}

Densel Dean Wilks, 61, of Thornfield, MO, formerly of Springfield, MO, died Sunday, August 10, 2003. Densel was born on May 29, 1942 in Kansas City, MO, to the late Willard Wilks and Leola (Beaver) Wilks. He was an electrical engineer for NASA and spent his life in pursuit of his universal theory.

Survivors include two daughters, Christie Brown and husband Alan of Texas, and Dee Street and husband Jayson of Oklahoma; his mother, Leola Beaver-Pfitzer of Oklahoma; one brother, Charles Wilks and wife Kay of Missouri; one grandson, Drake Street; and three nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 17, 2003 at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, MO, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a eulogy for Mr. Wilks at 3 p.m. Cremation will be done by Bella Vista Crematory in Bella Vista, AR. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, MO.
Family Contact: Dee Street He was raised in the Ozarks and finally bought land there to return home. although he was murdered and didn't get to live on his land for very long the Ozarks' were always in his heart.

Estell Vergie Keller, age 89, of Yuba, Calif., mother of Pearl Bowman and Sarah Lou Smith of Rector, died Monday, Feb. 9, 1987 in Yuba. She attended the General Baptist Church in Yuba for 60 years.

Other survivors include one son, Levi Ferguson of Loomer, Calif.; three other daughters, Violet Smith of Marysville, Calif., and Tommy Daniel and Mary Ingram of Yuba, 15 grandchildren, 21 great­grandchildren and one great-great­grandchild.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Chapel with Rev. L. L. Bounds and Rev. Carron Jackson officiating. Interment was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Mo., with Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector in charge of services.

Pallbearers were Frank Thrasher, Bob Uttle, Harold Speer, Ralph Simmons, Neil Crowson and Wayne Presson. {ccd}

Martha Effie Jane Armes, 84, Of Springdale died June 19, 1997, at her home. She was born Jan. 15, 1913, at Kingston to William Isaac and Mary Laduskey Kesner Armes. She was a homemaker and a member of Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Springdale. She was Preceded in death by one brother and her parents.

Survivors include three sisters: Elma Stout, Delma Clark and Merle Armes, all of Springdale; one sister-in-law, Mayme Armes of Springdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, June 23 at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Springdale with the Rev. Cecil Garrison and the Rev. Berton Perry officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. in Kingston Cemetery under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.

Pallbearers were Millard Clark, Melvin Clark, Orvil Clark, David Clark, Eddie Clark and Newell Clark. Honorary Pallbearers were Clebert Armes, Kenneth Armes, Harvey Clark, Dwayne Clark, Craig Ratterree, Charles Davenport, Charles White, the Rev. Loy Counts, Fred Smelley and Jim Combs. {mcr}

John S. Roach, 52, a lifetime resident of Hot Springs, died Monday (May 27, 1952) at a local hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lydia Roach, two sons, Jimmie and Richard, and a daughter Barbara Roach, all of Hot Springs, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Green, Santa Anita, Calif.

Mrs. Jo Anna Taylor, 35, of Fayetteville died July 9 at her home. She was born March 14, 1955, in Commerce, Okla., the daughter of Floyd Lee and Loretta Turner Snider. She was a secretery and a graduate of Northwest Vocational Technical School, where she was a member of PBL.

Survivors include three daughters, Marsha Diane Taylor, Sandra Lynn Taylor and Loretta Renea Taylor all of the home; her mother, Loretta Snider of Huntsville; two brothers, John Wayne Snider and Floyd Lee Snider, both of Huntsville; five sisters, Mrs. Ruby Graham and Mrs. Brenda Lisle, both of Huntsville, Mrs. Wynona Hudson of Prairie Grove, Mrs. LaRita Michael of Wesley, and Mrs. Glenda McGaughy of Fayetteville, and her maternal grandfather, Bert Turner of Commerce, Okla.

Rev. Vearl Eugene Reynolds, 72, of Ozone died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville. He was a retired truck driver, minister for 42 years, member of Shiloh United Baptist Church, U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, son of the late Ernie Roscoe and Edith Hudson Reynolds, and was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Sparks, and one brother, Eddie Reynolds.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Edgmon Reynolds; two daughters, Wilma Vaughn of Clarksville and Marcia Stanley of Ozone; two sons, Rev. Dennis Reynolds of Mulberry and Tim Reynolds of Hagarville; two sisters, Virgie Eaton of Elkins and Betty Jean Edgmon of Mossville; one brother, Vernon Reynolds of Kingston; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Mossville United Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Reynolds and Rev. Jerry Wood officiating. Burial was in Mossville Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Darin Vaughn, Daryl Vaughn, Brian Vaughn, Barry Vaughn, Matthew Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Danny Hefley, and Travis Gregory. Honorary pallbearers were Ricky Reynolds, Randall Edgmon, Kenny Wood, Pete Lager, Jerry Liggett, Terry Edgmon, and Richard Reynolds.
