Newton County, Arkansas




A post office was established at Spence on May 3, 1892, Solomon M. Overtuff was post master. The office at Spence was discontinued. A post office was established at Tarlton May 1, 1900, Francis M. Jackson was first post master. Several years later on January 9, 1917 a post office was established as Lurton, with Cornelia A. Sutton as first post master. Lurton was previously known as Spence. A post office was established at Cowell May 3, 1902, Joab A. Cowell was first post master. A post office was established at Quincy May 15, 1882, John J. Waters was first post master. The Quincy post office was discontinued. A post office was established as Moore April 5, 1910, Jeff A. Fountain was post master. Moore was previously known as Quincy.

Also in the area were the communites of Chancel, Snow, and Ego. Chancel, March 3, 1892 post master John E. Moore; Snow, March 21, 1892 post master Calvin H. Snow; Eago, October 18, 1900, post master William R. Mahan.
