A post office was established at Murray April 25, 1884, in History of Newton County, Walter Lackey shows William F. Murray as the first post master...another source states Dan Granville Murray was the one that got the post office started and was the first post master. Dan and Will were brothers...maybe it would be safe to state that the first post master was a Murray. Mount Parthenon post office was established April 18, 1851, with Thomas K. May being the first post master. On June 20, 1892 a post office was established at Wayton, Lois A. Way was first post master. James D. Faught was first post master of Deer, office established February 23, 1898. A post office was established at Limestone Valley December 29, 1876, John M. Adams was first post master. A post office was established at Summitt on June 20, 1892, Henry Heydenreich was post master.
