C. L. had corresponded with Mrs. Ruby Lacy several times in the 1980s about his and her Redwine families. They both had numerous families who had lived in Searcy County. Mrs. Lacy told him that she had collected obituaries from the Marshall Mountain Wave for over 30 years and had access to the early records from Coffman Funeral Home. She wanted to do the cemeteries from there. She asked him if he would help her do this.

Since she lived so far away in Ashland, Oregon, it would be impossible for her to actually go to the cemeteries. She usually only got back to Arkansas once every few years. So she wanted him to go to each cemetery to get directions for her to put with the cemetery information. He put her off at this time because he was still working full time.

After he retired in December 1989, he told her that if she still wanted to do the cemeteries, he would try to help her. She began sending them to him in alphabetical order, one cemetery at a time. He would then make the trip to Searcy County and find that cemetery. The Searcy County History Book has a map in the back of it with 64 known cemeteries. He used this to find the general vicinity of them and then stopped to ask directions when he got there. When she sent him the information on Big Flat Cemetery just over the county line in Baxter County and he got there, he knew from the size of the cemetery that she did not have all the information on it. Up till this time he had not actually checked her information against what was actually in the cemetery. He came home and called her to find out if she wanted all of the information from Big Flat. She, of course, did. So from then on, he would use her information and check off each tombstone in each cemetery. He would then return this information to her and she had books printed from this information: what she had already collected and what C. L. sent back to her.

Mrs. Lacy included the actual information from the tombstone in the cemetery, the information she collected from her own information from the obituaries and the funeral home information; and anything she could find from census, marriages, etc. So she had parents names, marriage dates, spouse's name and sometimes names of children for the couple. When she was finished with this project, she had printed 17 books on the cemeteries from Searcy County, Arkansas.

Mrs. Lacy is now deceased. But her books are still available from her son, Alex Lacy, 641 Pine Street, Medford, Oregon 97501-5832
