H. D. Jobe, successor to Dowdle and Bell, general livery and transfer business at Morrilton, Mr. Jobe is a native of Paris, Tenn., born 1853. His father, Capt. James Jobe, was born in Middle Tennessee and when a young man went to Paris, in Henry County, West Tennessee, where he married Miss Millie Ward, who was a native of that county. There they continued to reside till 1861, when they immigrated to Fulton County, Arkansas, and the next year to Van Buren County, where they lived till 1877, when they removed to Mount Vernon, in Faulkner County, where Mr. Jobe died in the year 1880. He was a farmer by occupation, and from 1862 was a soldier in the Confederate army; prior to the war he had been captain of the militia. Mrs. Jobe is still living and is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Her father was John Ward, a prominent farmer of Henry County, Tennessee, where he died. The subject of our sketch is the third of a family of three sons and five daughters, all of whom are still living. He remained at home and assisted in the support of the family till 25 years of age, when he spent about two years in the stock business. He then engaged in mercantile pursuits at Mount Vernon where he continued about two years, when he removed to Wooster, where he continued in the mercantile business until his removal to Morrilton in 1888, since which time he has been engaged in the livery business. He is well equipped and is always ready to accommodate the traveling public. He also runs a transfer line between the river at old Lewisburg and Morrilton. He was married in 1881 to Miss Mollie Elliott, a native of Mississippi, but from about three years old was reared in Searcy, Ark. Her parents are now living at Mount Vernon. Mr. and Mrs. Jobe are the parents of four children. Mr. Jobe is a member of the East Fork Lodge, A. F. and A. M., No. 327. Mrs. Jobe is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
