Joseph Treadwell is one of the substantial farmers of McLaren Township; he is a native of Arkansas, having been born in Searcy County October 22, 1847; his parents, Daniel and Nancy (Lee) Treadwell, were natives of Tennessee, and were the parents of eight children, six of whom are still living.

Daniel Treadwell was a farmer by occupation, and immigrated to Arkansas at an early day; he located in Searcy County, where, for a few years, he became known as an active man in all things of public improvement; he died in 1854; his excellent wife succeeded him for over thirty years, and died in 1885.

Our subject was educated in private schools of Searcy County, and at his majority began the life of a farmer with a very limited start. In 1867 he married Caroline Smith, a native of this State; to this union have been born eight children, who bear the following names: Leona B., Amos R., Glasco V. (deceased); Cora M., Ottie L., Loey C.; the other died in infancy.

Our subject pursues the occupation of farmer, and has a good place of 80 acres, 40 of which are under a good state of cultivation, and the whole place is well stocked. Mr. Treadwell takes an active interest in the public schools, and has served as Director of his district. No matter for the public good passes by Mr. Treadwell unindorsed and unaided; he and wife are members of the M. E. Church, in which he is a worker and a supporter.
