Grandma Gilmore Fooled Him Submitted byPatsey Gilmore Thanks Patsey! |

Grandma Emaline Mayberry Gilmore was left alone on the farm at Red Rock while her husband Kelsey was fighting the Civil War with the Union Soldiers. While he was away in Tennessee, the family ran out of salt. Grandma decided to take some of the children and make a trip in the wagon to Missouri to get more salt. On the way they passed many soldiers on both sides and as they were returning one of the soldiers stopped them and robbed them of their food and horses. Grandma fooled him, she had the salt safely fastened up underneath her many petticoats and he didn't get the salt. As he was driving her horses off, she picked up a rock and threw it hard at his horse, knocked the horse unconscious. They still took her horse but she returned home to Red Rock with the Salt.
Story by Betty Lou Gilmore Grosclaude who heard this from her father, Walter Gilmore, many times...via Patsey Gilmore...Thanks go to both of you for sharing!
