Low Gap Post Office

Low Gap Post Office was established January 17, 1898, with James A. 'Jim Fisher' Villines as postmaster. Mr. Villines was postmaster until the office was discontinued September 30, 1914. The office was re-established March 1, 1916, with Joseph W. Vinson as postmaster. The office was moved from the Villines residence to that of Mr. Vinson, one mile south of the first location. November 21, 1919, John H. Kilgore; February 14 , 1938, Audrey Villines was appointed as acting; received appointment, May 14, 1938. Office moved to the Villines home near Low Gap school house. December 19, 1939, Mrs. Orpha Kilgore became acting postmaster and the office was moved to the John Kilgore's residence on the mountain. Mrs. Kilgore received appointment January 29, 1940, and was the postmaster through 1946. The office was named by the first settlers as a reminiscence of a like location in Johnson County, Low Gap Springs. This building was built by Samuel A. Eoff.
