John A. Walker
John A. Walker moved into the Ponca area and no one knew much about him. The census records of 1930 gives the information that he and his parents were born in Virginia. He was living alone but he had a niece, Alice Walker, that visited him fairly often. She always sent us a package with books and other goodies. She lived in California.
He had a one room cabin on up the creek from where we lived across from Grandma Lue. He had several goats, he made a garden, he had grape vines and fruit trees. He was a kind gentle man but kept mostly to himself. I do remember he had a cancer on the side of his nose and it always started to bleed at church and he would dab at it with his handkerchief.
John A. Walker is the one in the photo with the bucket and I believe the girl is his niece, but I do not know who the other man is.
He was born 1858 died 1942 and buried in Beechwood Cemetery.
