I loved squirrel brains...When I was about 7-8 years old, we were at a Beechwoods Decoration and we usually had Dinner On The Ground, where we would take a bed sheet and spread it out on the ground and everyone sit around and eat the basket lunch they brought and visit at the same time. This one particular time Mom had not brought a picnic lunch, but my Aunt Jewell had brought
some loafs of bread and maybe a couple of fried squirrels. I immediately grabbed the heads and was going for the brains, but discovered there was no silverware and nothing to open the head with. So being
hungry as I was I grabbed the first thing I could find which was a huge rock and immediately went after the brains. Mom saw what I was doing she started laughing and when other people saw it I felt all of a sudden the whole world was laughing at me. But I got the brains out and they were just as good if I had
had used a silver spoon :o).
Just one of those things that happen in life that for some reason I never forgot, probably because Mom laughed so long and hard about it...
