This is Bert McCarty's store and those were his trucks in front. My Dad drove one of them for Bert. I don't know which one is Dad (Joe VanCuren) or the who the other two men are, but this would have been in the late 1930s. Bert's wife, Viola, was a Clemmer and from the ones buried at Beechwood. Bert's and Viola's daughter, Lucille and husband Armand Kelly, lived there with Bert and Viola. There was also a cafe connected wtih the store and the little cabins in the background were theirs and they rented them out to people. Bert, Viola, the Clemmers all came to Ponca with the mining industry.
