John Henry Harris in shooting near Ozark.
Ozark - July 13, 1931
One man was wounded and another is being held in jail here as a result of an alleged fight Saturday night at a picnic 12 miles north of here. George Williams, a bystander, suffered two bullet wounds when he was struck by John Henry Harris, operator of a pavilion at the picnic while struggling with Howard White, Franklin County assessor. The fight is said to have occured when Harris asked White to leave the pavilion and when White refused the men are said to have started fighting, Harris is said to have drawn a pistol from his pocket and fired twice at White, the bullets striking Williams in a finger and in the leg. Harris was arrestd by J W Johnson, justice of the peace of Watalula township. Sheriff Ledgewood said Sunday he did not know what charges would be filed against Harris, pending a complete investigation.
