Theodrick Green; written by Mrs Loyal Bunker Green given to her by John L. Green Feb 1929.
Theodrick, the son of Thomas and Amy Kizee Green, was born in Va. Dec 31, 1799. In 1811 he was taken to Picklemania, Tenn. Kingston Co., and grew to manhood there. He married Mary Hassler there, December 20, 1820. She was the daughter of Michael and Agnes Scarsborough Hassler, and was born April 5, 1805.
Theodrick and Mary were the parents of 13 children, 8 sons and 5 daughters. In 1857 they moved to Marion Co., Ark.
Theodrick led a busy and active life as a farmer and a mechanic. It is said that he built the first threshing machine in northern Arkansas and that Henry Ford tried to by it...it was later burned in the barn in which it was built, the barn was a 2 story building. Horsepower was applied on the ground level, while on the 2nd floor the cylinders stripped the grainheads and removed the grain. The grain ran down to the ground level and was carried back up to be poured down again for the wind to blow the shaft from the grain.
In later years Theodrick lost the use of his mind at times, altho at other times he could still do good work, he could not be depended on to look out for himself or his family. Later in his illiness an abcess in his head broke. He never regained his sense of balance and was never able to do business again and became a ward of his family. He became so violent that he was unsafe to be near the younger children and would sometimes beat them with great force. His son, Mike being about grown, built a pen in which they would lock their father until he would calm down. He learned to go into the pen when he felt a spell coming on. It was this condition that was the background for the ease in which he was lured away from home and killed by bushwackers during the Civil War.
He was a southern sympathizer, he was shot from a boat and dumped into the White River in Ark in March 1865. Some women who were washing in the river discovered the body, it was taken from the river, rolled in a blanket and buried near by. Years later when the land was being put in culivation, the remains were moved to a grave in the Goverment Cemetery at Cedar Creek, Taney County, Missouri.
