Shelburn Hendrix (S.H.) Morton born August 1, 1873 was my great grandfather he was born in Wells County, Indiana. He moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri in 1880 an lived with his mother Abbie Morton (maiden name not known) his father is not known, but the census stated his father was born in Kentucky.

In 1920 census, S.H. was living in the Mainshore Community in Greene County an was farming with his wife Edith Ann (Lambert) Morton, born February 14,1883 in Wells, Indiana. Her father was John Lambert, born abt. 1813 in Ireland. Children listed: Lawrence V. son, 15, Lewelin dau, 13, Georgia dau, 10, Barney son, 6, Burney son, 6 (twins), Ceava E. son, 4 1\2.

There was other children born later an they were Edith, Edna, Gerladine, and Eugene (twins). Edith married Raymond Cox an died when she was 21 with TB.

My Grandfather was Barney Irwin Morton, married Helen Bernita Gladish, February 8, 1940 in Dunklin Co. Missouri. Children were: Jimmy 7-14-40, Cathrine Ann 10-5-43, Barney Otto 4-5-45. Jimmy died in 1943 of pneaumai and is buried at Pine Knott with my grandparents.

Catherine (Cathy) married Donald Strope 12-24-59 in Greene County, and their children were Helen, Donnie, and John.

Otto Barney Morton who is my father, married Mattie L. Reddick, 6-6-64 of Mounds, Ar. My mother is the great great grandaughter of Humphrey Reddick and Mary Alice from 'Father's of The Ridge'. Their children were: Pamela, Tina, Teddie, and Kathleen.

In 1919 S.H. an Edith bought 20 acres from G.M. Tennision. In 1920 they purchased 60 acres from W.C. Batey, this land originally came from Bertig Land Company.

In 1923 they purchased 39 1/2 acres from J.H. Cozart. S.H. Morton lived at Villiage in 1931 which was up around Old Pekin Rd. in Paragould at that time the whole family helped farm an raise the crops.

Then they moved to what used to be called Bailey Trading Post, down on the San Francis River almost on the the Craighead line.

My Grandpa Barney would tell about having to get up way before daylight an travel by boat and lantern's to Childers Arkansas by the way of the river to trade their goods an come back home late up in the night. In 1935 they moved across the 8-mile right on the Craighead line to what is still to this day the Morton Homeplace, where my Parent's still live.

When they first moved their it was nothing but swamps an cyprus trees. They started clearing the land an working the ground, used the lumber and built their homes. My sister's and I grew up in the original house that they built in 1935.

My Dad and Grandpa moved the house on up the road about quarter of a mile from were it was built on higher ground. They set the house on logs and slowly rolled the house to where it now sets up by the 8-mile ditch. Pulling it with teams of horses.

My parent's still live their today an farm the Morton Land, raising soybeans and winter wheat.
