Mrs. Jennie Allen, widow of John Allen, deceased, is a native of
Washington County, this State, born December 21, 1844. She is a
daughter of Abraham and Mary Kirby Smith, and her parents were
natives of North Carolina and Tennessee respectively, and were
married in Washington County, Arkansas. To that union was born one
daughter, Jennie, the subject of this sketch. Mother died in 1846,
and father about 1851. Mrs. Allen was married in Conway County,
Arkansas, September 15, 1870; her husband was a native of
Mississippi, born October 10, 1848; he followed farming, but was
also a physician, and practiced that profession for some twelve
years. He died in 1880 and left five children, two sons and three
daughters, named John Q., William F., Mary J., Maggie L. and
Nettie F. Mrs. Allen has a good farm of 160 acres, well improved.
She has a most interesting family, the boys are diligent and
industrious, good managers and are doing much to supply the
father's place as supports of the family. This year they have in a
large crop of cotton. Mrs. Allen is a member of the Methodist
Church, and a most intelligent lady.
