W. A. MATTHEWS
William Alex Matthews, aged 83 years, died at his home near Clearwater on
January 1. He had been a resident of Arkansas some 60 years. He professed a
hope in Christ about 47 years ago and joined the United Baptist church 25 years
ago.
Mr. Matthews is survived by one step-daughter, Sarah Gardenhire: 2
grandchildren, and five hal- brothers.
Funeral services were held at the Snow church house by Rev. Jesse Powell on
January 2, with B. H. Anderson in charge of the burial arrangements.

General: Her obituary was glued into the back of Ert's Red Letter Testament.
Her obituary reads:
'Mrs. Elizabeth Mathews, wife of Alex Mathews, residing over the mountain
southwest of town, died on last Saturday night at the ripe old age of 91 years.
She had been ailing for a long time, having been totally blind for the past
several years. She was formerly Mrs. Gideon Gardenhire, her first husband
having been kill during the Civil War. She was the mother of Mrs. Oscar Grim
of Green Forest. Interment was made at the Snow cemetery Monday morning,
services being conducted by Eld. Riley Miller.' This was on Nov. 9, 1912.
