W. A. MATTHEWS
William Alex Matthews, aged 83 years, died at his home near Clearwater on
January 1. He had been a resident of Arkansas some 60 years. He professed a
hope in Christ about 47 years ago and joined the United Baptist church 25 years
ago.
Mr. Matthews is survived by one step-daughter, Sarah Gardenhire: 2
grandchildren, and five half-brothers.
Funeral services were held at the Snow church house by Rev. Jesse Powell on
January 2, with B. H. Anderson in charge of the burial arrangements.

Obituary:
JANE GARDENHIRE DIES IN MISSOURI
Sarah Jane Gardenhire, 83, died on Thursday, November 11, in the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Russell Judd, near Valley Park, Missouri.
Mrs. Gardenhire, before going to Missouri, was a resident of Berryville. She
was born near Green Forest on July 1, 1871, and lived for many years in the Snow
community.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by one son, Erton Mathis of Berryville;
also two grandsons, Fay Beeson of St. Louis, Missouri and Maynard Beeson of
Longview, Washington; seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Gardenhire was a member of the Moore United Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:00 PM at Snow Church, with Rev. Elbert
Johnson conducting the services.
Burial was in the Snow cemetery. Pall bearers were: Bert Boatright, Eugene
Snow, Hill Grogan, Vernon Snow, Ellis Reed and Walter Stephenson.
Burial: Phillip Snow remembers this as the first funeral he ever attended at age 7.

Mathis
Ert Mathis, 72 years of age, died March 26th at the Boone County Hospital in
Harrison. His home was near Berryville. Mr. Mathis was born in Carroll County
May 16, 1887.
He is survived by his widow Mrs. Love Mathis of the home; one step-son, Eugene
Snow of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Mrs. Russell Judd of St. Louis, Mo., and
two nephews, Fay Beeson of St. Louis, Mo. and Maynard Beeson on Longview, Wash.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p. m. Tuesday, March 29th at the Snow Church
with Hanse Armstrong and Auburn Green officiating. Burial was in the Snow
Cemetery, under the direction of the Nelson Funeral Home of Berryville, Ark.
