General: Information from Roy Edward Hill who states that she was a Cherokee Indian
princess. Information from Irene Jefford Dorethy substanciates this and she
described her as having dark and penetrating eyes.
CHILD NOTES: Horace Edward HILL
General: A note says the date of marriage may have been 27 nov 1895 in Berryville,
Arkansas.
Irene Jefford Dorthey said that he had just one arm, blue eyes, and in later
life a heavy head of white hair, and light beard growth that was always clean
shaven.
Roy Hill reafirmed a story told by his sister Grace about Horace. Horace worked
in a place called the sugar house which was on the road to South Pekin. In this
place was machinery that was powered by belts driven by an overhead drive shaft.
Horase was dressing the belts when his hand was caught, he was flipped twice and
when he landed both legs were broken, both shoulders broken, and his right
forearm had been nearly ripped off. The arm required amputation and Horace
nearly 2 years of hospitalization. When he came home he told the doctor that
the fist of the removed arm felt clenched so the physician left and after a time
returned with the coroner saying that they had gone to the grave yard, dug up
the arm, and unclenched the fist. Horace, apparently got the relief he sought.
Roy said that Grace was 11 or 12 at the time.
From this accident, Roy feels that a large sum of money was paid to Horace
because they purchased a farm in Glasford, across from the Jefford's, and moved
from Pekin. Some time later, about 1916 or 17 according to Roy, lightning
struck the barn and destroyed it and all inside. This included horses, a four
seat buggy, and a baby overland. Place of residence at time of death was
Glasford, Illinois.
