James Wilson Family

James was born May 27, 1793 in in South Carolina, settled in Marion County, Lebanon, KY in 1789. He was the son of Capt. William Wilson. Tradition has it that William was a Captain in the Revolutionary War, and that he was sent to Kentucy to protect the citizens from Indains and that he was a intimate friend of Daniel Boone.

On March 6, 1790 he was captured by Indians, beheaded and placing his head on top a pole, the Cherokees rode off with it. This was witnessed by his son, James, who was then 17 years old, James recovered the body and buried it, keeping the facts from his mother.

James Married Margaret 'Peggy' McElroy June 19, 1794 in Marion County Kentucy. Peggy was born July 7, 1773 in Kentucky, a daughter of Samuel and Mary Irvin McElroy.

James and Peggy were the parents of 14 children:

Mary 4-18-1796, married Arthur Davis, lived in later years with youngest brother Alfrod, in Fayetteville, Arkansas

Nancy 9-30-1797, married William Neild

William 2-16-1799, married ? Clark

Samuel Houston 1-3-1801, married Cinthia Gibson, killed in Civil War in Carroll County, Arkansas

Sarah 4-5-1802, married Ben Gibson, lived in Paynesville, Missouri

Elizabeth 9-24-1803

John McElroy 5-31-1805, married Ellen Lee, died in Carroll County, Arkansas

James Irvine 1-19-1807, married Josephine Vinson, died 10-1-1851 in Ponotoc, Mississippi

Green Wilson 8-22-1808, married Lodusky??, died in Carroll County, Arkansas

Ann 3-6-1810, married Henry Hughey (My Line), died in Boone County, Arkansas between 1860-70

Josephine 12-23-1815

Alfred M. 6-8-1817, married #1 Isabella Dickson #2 Margaret Rhodes

As Alfred was the only child born in Tennessee it appears they left Kentucky in 1816. He Died 1907 in Washington County, Arkansas, buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Margaret died 9-26-1834 in Lincoln County, Tennessee then Jaames moved to Crooked Creek in then Carroll County, Arkansas, (now Boone Co). James died June 2, 1859 in Washington County, Arkansas, is buried in the Mt Comfort Cememetery near Fayetteville.
