Item #87 John Whisenant Family:
John Henry Whisenant was born July 22, 1853 in Ellijay, Georgia and his wife Mary Ellen Jeton/Giton was born July 13, 1852 in Alabama. They were married July 20, 1876 in St. Clair, Marshall County, Alabama.

Their sons: William Henry Whisenant was born May 20, 1877 Marshall County, Alabama. He married Lucy Emma Scott born June 20, 1879 in Pope County, Arkansas. They married November 24, 1898. She was the daughter of Mary M. Scott who was sister to James Major Scott of Searcy County, Arkansas. My Mother, L'Dee Whisenant Barnard born September 13, 1921 was the baby of nine children.
John Marimon Whisenant born May 20, 1889 (yes they had same birthday) in Snowball, Searcy County, Arkansas. Uncle Marimon married Mary Jane Renfroe born January 14, 1887. They married September 17, 1905. Mary Jane is the baby daughter of Joseph Leander Renfroe.

William Henry's family is on the right hand side of the picture and John Marimon's family is on the left side. Mary Jane is holding their son Leonard, he was born 1908.

Mary Ellen Jeton Whisenant had one sister China B. Jeton who was married to Jesse Weaver. Jesse was the son of Jefferson Weaver of Searcy County. They had one daughter Ona Weaver. Mary Ellen and China were daughters of Henson Jeton and Naoma Morgan. On the 1900 census of Spring Twp., Searcy County, Arkansas. Naoma is listed as Laoma Giton. So, my grt grt grandmother was in Searcy County also. I would like to know where she is buried. Some researchers have translated the Giton as Gideon, but if you look real close at the original you can tell it is Giton. She couldn't read or write and was probable hard to understand. The name Jeton/Giton is French. Mary Ellen could speak French as told by her grandchildren.

Item #88 Missionary Baptist Church:
Snowball, Arkansas. John Henry Whisenant and Mary Ellen Jeton Whisenant moved to Snowball, Searcy County, Arkansas sometime between 1880 and 1889 when their son John M. was born. John Henry filed for homestead in 1887. All of their grandchildren except for two were born in Snowball. John Henry was a preacher, Justice of Peace and a farmer. They belonged to the Missionary Baptist Church,
My grandmother said all the Whisenant ladies were the ones on the very front on the right side. They were all in hats. I think the David James family is right in the middle. You can see a man holding a Bible. Will be interesting to see if some of the other people can be recognized.

I know James DePriest died in 1936. James Lay moved to Oklahoma in 1930. Doc Hensley died in 1930. I don't know anything about Bud Treece.
